If your employer were throwing away your work related magazines
Would you be irrate and want to quit? I have found out that I was supposed to be receiveing a few different free magazines for professionals in my industry, but that my employer has been throwing them away. Evidently this has been happening to everyone else there too. The magazines thrown away have the person's name on the top line of the address label.
These magazines do have useful information which could help me as a professional and be more educated about my industry. It is these magazines policies to send them to the place of business, not homes.
The employer is constantly telling everyone that they aren't knowledgeable enough, don't think enough, are messing up, etc. and he gets rid of a free possible source of education for us.
I think that throwing away the magazines is also completely disrespectful.
Maybe it is just because I am pregant and hormonal but it really makes me want to quit soon after I come back from having the baby. Or is this normal behavior on the part of my employer and not something to get upset about?

1. I don't think it is normal and
getting a new job as soon as you can would be in your best interest -- your boss shouldn't belittle you and then throw away information that will increase your knowledge..that's being evil.

You could also call the magazines and let them know what your boss is doing and see if they will make an exception and send them to your home address.

3. Can't speak to whether this is normal yet.
Have you asked exactly who is doing this, why, and whether it must continue?

4. The president of the company picks up the mail
And throws the magazines away. While he was away, the head secretary pciked up the mail and we got the magazines. I have asked my boss about this and he has said that it has been a problem for a long time. I am afraid to confront the president (who owns the company in fact) of the company directly about this. I am sort of afraid of him because he reminds me of one of those crime bosses that starts shooting people working for him (I don't think that he would ever do that literally but one gets the same feeling around him).

7. Anonymous tips to HR, or anonymous e-mails to the president himself...
...could quickly end this by bringing up the illegality of what he's doing. I can understand your not wanting to be identified as the squeaky wheel, though, if you've so far been the only one to complain.

12. It's normal to throw out junk mail.
I get dozens of professional flyers and magazines a month and most of them get thrown out before I have to waste my time with them. If you want the magazines, why not just say so? Or you could change the address on the magazine subscriptions to start receiving them at home.

13. There's a bigger questions here...
What the hell? Why the hell is he throwing these magazines away? This is not normal behavior, and as others here have noted, actually illegal. If you have an HR person, complain to them.
