Speaking of being officially old, I found my first grey hair the other day.
It probably didn't help that I saw it in the mirror while tidying up between classes. Anyhow, I called my mother for some sympathy, and she told me she didn't start getting them until she was in her 40's.

If I'm mot mistaken, this means you can officially add me to the Official List of Old People. Or that I need to start investigating my hair dye options. Maybe both.

1. I started getting them in my mid-twenties
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 12:09 PM by Lavender Brown
Annoyingly, they're mostly in my bangs. I get blond highlights, which camouflages them enough so I don't have to dye my whole head of hair. Eh, what can you do... :)

2. I found my first gray hair at 19.
Or rather, my mother found it. I was sitting at her kitchen table and when she saw it she yanked it out of my head without warning. Thanks, Ma. Neither of my parents had many gray hairs until they were in their fifties and still had mostly their natural color well into their 70s. Me, that's another story.

3. I found one about a year ago, near my hairline in the front.
I yanked it out, but it never grew back. Maybe it's just an aberration?

4. I found my first gray hair when I was 13.
If you can put up with a longish story, I will tell one.

About 15 years ago I started dying my hair because of the gray (I was about 30 then). Every 5-6 weeks like clockwork, I had to touch up the roots. I stopped dying my hair when I got pregnant with K (I did not think the chemicals were a good idea during the pregnancy). She was born about 7 years ago. I was happy with my salt and pepper hair. About 6 months ago, I got talked into dying my hair again by a friend of mine. And I have pretty much regretted it ever since.

7. I shave so I wouldn't know.
I never really thought of it as a defensive mechanism against the aging process before.

8. I'm not wild about grey hair, but I love white hair.
My kid's had grey hair showing up since she was in her early 20s. She dyes her hair and it often looks dead. She'd look much better with the grey showing.

13. I had my first grey hair when I was 24
At 30 though, I still only get them periodically and pull them out when I do. I have never dyed my hair but will probably try it if I get enough grey that I can't pull it out and it is noticeable to most other people.

14. I don't remember when I got my first gray hair...
...but I'm 41 now, and although I still have at least 90% of my hair, some of the strands are indeed gray. I'm not too worried. My grandfather looked great with a head of gray hair.

16. I find women who are confident enough to enjoy their gray
to be attractive. I got my first gray hair at 18, but another gent from my high school was nearly completely bald by 20, so it's all relative.

17. I just turned 44 and have just a few grey hairs.
Right now they don't really show because of the way my hair part falls. But they are also sort of clustered together in the same general area so I am thinking I might just develop one of those striking looking stripes.

I don't imagine I'll ever dye it. I prefer embracing the way I look and making the best of it.

18. Found my first at 26. Damn you, paternal grandmother!!
She greyed early, and I appear to have inherited that unfortunate gene. Being blonde hid most of them for years, but I finally gave in and started using color to cover them up.

And I'm certainly not old--and neither are you!! :hi:

at 43 I've finally stopped dying my hair and letting it be grey. I like it.

I swear, that was the answer my mom gave me when I complained (many years ago) about my first gray hair.

Jeez, mom.

27. I am 69 years old and I don't know if I have grey hair.
I have been coloring it since I was 16. When I was in high school, my naturally blonde hair started turning darker. So, I hit the bleach bottle. Even if their is grey hair, it blends in with the blonde so it is not noticeable.
