Is Mel Gibson addicted to Christ?
Mel's been doing the talkshow circuit, talking about how Christianity has saved him from his multiple addictions. Does that set off any alarm bells out there? Does that worry DU Christians that this guy has set himself up as a spokesman for their beliefs? Did Mel just swap pills for Jesus? Is an addict always an addict?

1. Big deal
Pipsqueak and serial ego-clown Tom Cruise and John Revolta shill for Scientology on TV and newspapers every chance they get.

If Mel's high on Christ, so what?

8. Dry drunks aren't always fundies and vice versa
but speaking as someone with an addictive personality myself, yeah, it's very easy to swap one obsession or thrill ofr another.

Moderation is the key.

5. More importantly
Are DU'ers addicted to Mel Gibson and this dopey topic? Enough already, it's a movie featuring an actor covered in ketchup.

12. No he doesn't worry me.
Jesus is probably very important to him, but I think publicity is also very important to him. I think he uses Jesus for publicity and I don't agree with that. I wouldn't give Mel Gibson the time of day. He's a lousy actor, not the mouthpiece for millions of Christians worldwide.

16. This is a new obsession with him
I don't recall him being this fixated on christianity in the past. I wonder what major event in his life sent him "over the edge" not that there is anything wrong with this new devotion to god.

19. If you believe his Diane Sawyer interview
he says it was trying to quit his addictions to drugs and alchohol that did it for him religiously. He did say he has an addictive personality. I give him points for being honest.

And it is possible to substitute one addiction for another. In this case religion for chemical stimulants.

20. That reminds me of a Christian Death album cover
Anyway, I think it was Christian Death. It showed Jesus on the cross shooting heroin.

I remember looking at that and thinking, "Hmm. This feels right."
