My stepmother actually wasn't a bad person but my father was so obnoxiously obvious trying to foist her on us that we ended up resenting both of them. And at least he hadn't left my mother for her (he had left my mother for someone else - when she dumped him, he found the stepmother).

I hope I've been a better parent than that. ~sigh~
