5. Denali National Park

We won the road lottery, so we were able to drive in, which we did on Friday. These were taken on the Denali Highway that runs between Cantwell and Paxson on Saturday. Have you ever taken that drive? It's 135 miles of dirt road (except for the last 20 miles which are paved), so it took us about five hours to get across, but it was fabulous.

7. Good morning. That was going to be my guess, yes I did.

I went in partway right before they closed it for the season. They (used to) open in the last weekend to drive partway in, probably 20 or so miles I am thinking. Congrats on being able to get the whole way in. It is impressive.

10. Oh, you're thinking of the Denali Park road, probably,

which you can drive up to the Teklanika Campground before you have to take buses the rest of the way in (in the summer). We got to drive all the way into the park (through the road lottery -- 400 vehicles a day for four days), and actually drove all the way back to Kantishna, beyond Wonder Lake.

But these photos were taken on what's called the Denali Highway which runs between Cantwell on the Parks Highway over to Paxson on the Richardson. That one is paved from Paxson up to Tangle Lakes (about 20 miles) but is dirt and gravel the rest of the way, another 115 miles.
