Jason Mraz needs a better agent
He's a singer-songwriter with three albums (Waiting For My Rocket To Come, Mr. A-Z and the new We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things). Unlike most of the artists that have come out in the last few years, he has talent. Bonus: he supports Barack Obama (on his website he's mentioned that things will be better "when President Obama is elected") and he smokes weed. Unfortunately, no one knows who the hell he is.

A little Mraz for this evening:

"I'm Yours": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHTsc9PU2A

"Wordplay": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TDcQdgGi5U&NR=1 (apparently, this is the hardest song in the world to sing backup on; click the link and you'll know why)

"The Remedy": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb-73iU6ubQ&feature=related

1. I know who he is.
He's one of my favorites. I wish he were out there more, but they promote him even less than they do Jack Johnson, someone else who also has talent and no one knows.

2. I thought he was pretty big?
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 08:46 PM by Revolutionary_Acts04
The Remedy was huge when it first came out.

On Edit: I've always liked "You and I Both."

3. The Remedy was pretty big
I've been told he sold over 20 million copies of his first album, so there are SOME people who know who he is...but he's nowhere as big as he should be.

I also heard he never performs a song the same way twice in his concerts, so he lets people tape them and trade (but not sell) the recordings.

4. I lump Mraz with Mayer, Blunt, and Adam Levine, fairly or not.

6. What's up with M-R-A-Z?
I've been diggin on Mraz since I first heard 'The Remedy' a few years ago.

He can be a bit Mayer-ish, but seems more whimsical and experimental. Good stuff.

8. I grew up in San Diego
Pretty sure Mraz is from there. Sorry to disappoint any fans, but I don't find him impressive at all. I've seen him a few times, and he seems to be riding the Jack Johnson wave (who incidentally ripped off a guy named Chris Murray who moved to Los Angeles from Canada in the mid-90s).

Anyhow, he's got plenty of exposure. I think I even saw him on MadTV once. What more do you want? Sometimes, the public just doesn't catch on.
