Can't find a job--need encouragement
I'm a recent college graduate (B.A.), moved back home to Metro Louisville, and cannot find a job. I had one interview in the last two months. My student loan payments are agonizing. I'm applying for everything around here and nothing doing. Someone offer some kind of hope, please. It's getting really depressing.

2. It will happen
Sometimes you have to be mobile, though. Have you considered relocating?

Hold on!

3. relocating..
With relocating; I'd be entry-level and they don't pay for the costs. I have no money for rent, deposit, gas, etc.. besides if I can't find a job in one metropolis; how would I find one in another.... stupid liberal arts degree...

5. thanks
Thank you "I Have a Dream." It's nice to know that beyond the abstract politics of Jobs/Economy a person will go out of his or her way to show how it affects real people. Thank you--that's very kind of you.

6. I can't find one either.
But here are a few suggestions...

Do as much as you can and treat your search like a job. Make a couple different resumes and have them posted on all the major job boards. Apply for everything, respond to everything, even if it doesn't sound that interesting at first. And take a retail job like a cashier job even though that isn't what you want to do. Any job that gets you out and talking to people makes you feel better and you might end up networking into a job.

7. ~ ~ sending vibes ~ ~
Contact your student loan company and ask them for a forbearance or to be on the income contingent repayment plan.

8. Do they have temp agencies where you live? That could keep you busy
in the meantime. Also you could drop flyers off downtown offereing your services for just below the market rate and get work that way. I've done both and been kept busy that way.

9. Best Job Tip Advice: Learn A Foreign Language or Two
Master a foreign language. With the global economy, foreign ownership of U.S. businesses will increase. Heck, a Belgium company just bought Annheiser Busch (sp?) in your neck of the woods.

have you consolidated your student loans? that should lower the payments and get you a good interest rate. were you not given a six month grace period after graduation as far as starting payments?

12. There are times when I've gone months without a job or worked a temp job.
And at the end of it all I decided that it was better that I went without a job for a while because if I had stopped looking too soon I wouldn't have found the perfect job I eventually ended up in.

13. My son is in the same situation
He graduated in the spring and has been looking and applying. Not many jobs to begin with and lots of competition for those that are available.
That first job is always tough. Any trade or user groups you can go to meetings and try to network?
Good luck
