1. I like the one near my place in Germantown.
Seneca Creek State park. Nice lake, nice hiking, pretty woods, lots of wildlife...:)

8. We'd love to go there but we can't go to the opposite side of the
beltway on a work day. Nooo.... not gonna fight that traffic. But thanks!

2. Calvert Cliffs State Park
Charles County off Route 4.

You can take a nice 2 mile walk that ends at the bay with giant cliffs where you can hunt for shells and fossils. Really really cool.

5. it's great
I've only been there once and didn't find any sharks teeth, but did find a lot of fossilized shells. You can also see a band what must be millenia old shells at the bottom of the cliffs.

9. You beat me to it.
(But it's actually Calvert County. Sorry, just had to nitpick.)

But if you're around Waldorf, just take Route 5 south to Route 231 at Hughesville, then Route 231 east over the Patuxent River until you get to Route 2-4 in Prince Frederick. Then just head south for about 15 miles until you get to Lusby. The turn-off will be on your left and take you right into the park.

It's about a 20 minute hike until you actually get to the beach with the Cliffs, but well worth it IMHO.

6. Cunningham Falls is nice
I've been there and have a nice picture of me and a couple of friends sitting on a rock overlooking Frederick while the wind blew our hair..Of course its a little creepy knowing that somewhere around there is Camp David and god knows what kind of security lurking...

7. I got flashed by an F-15 fighter jet while hiking around Camp David, lol
Was hiking with a group on the trails and we stopped at an open rock cropping for lunch. While we were there an F-15 flew over us, then circled around, only this time it turned over so we could see the armed missiles on its underbelly :scared:

We were on public trails owned by the NPS, so we were doing nothing wrong, but it was a little unnerving, lol.
