If you have any good thoughts, prayers and vibes, kindly send them northwest
to Oregon. My mother should be going into surgery in the next 2 hours and while her prognosis is excellent (cancerous tumor picked up on a mammogram), surgery is never without risks. Also, the doctor believes that he won't find any more, but this is the same doctor who told her not to worry - the tumor is nothing... Oops...

Thanks.

Still no word yet. I know they'll keep grabbing lymph nodes and sending them to the lab until they find one that isn't involved. And who knows, maybe the first one will be clean and that part of the surgery will be over.

No matter what, lumpectomy or mastectomy, she goes home TODAY. Isn't that nice that my dad, an engineer, gets to be a nurse because the insurance company considers this to be basically an outpatient procedure. Gawd I hope Obama wins and we can finally start to fix this disaster called the U.S. healthcare system. :(

16. Nope, not late
Surgeries at that hospital always seem to start late. And with so many unanswered questions, I'm sure it's going to take a while.

17. Woohoo!!!
Just got this from my father.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi All,

I just got Mom home from her surgery. They did additional tissue removal and checked the lymph node. All is fine. The lymph node did not have any cancer cells in it. That is great news.

Mom is having pain this time and had a general anesthetic. She is going to rest now and will call you this evening.

Love,

Dad

33. So sorry, I know how scary this is
My mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer (lymph node involvement.) I was 8 months pregnant and she worried she would not see my baby's first birthday. Well, said child will be 17 in November!

So try not to worry too much.
