1. It has to be Rock Me Amadeus
Well, they all really suck, but that one came out just as I was graduating from high school, and :scared: ... oh how I hate that song...

3. I think "Rock Me Amadeus" is THE worst record of the '80s.

And that's saying a lot!!!

11. I bet i can think of dozens of worse 80's songs
Somebody's watching me - name escapes me
Girls with guns - tommy shaw
May the cube be with you - thomas dolby
The chicken song - spitting image cast
The chicken dance - people who should burn in hell
anything by the stock, aitkin, and waterman stable of artists (Jason Donovan, Sabrina, Kylie Minogue (the early stuff like the insipid I should be so lucky -worst song ever), Danni Minogue, Craig McClachlan, Stefan Dennis) - this includes I should be so lucky, the locomotion, many other bad remakes, and of course "don't it make you feel good" (no not really)
blame it on the boogie - big fun?
wake me up before you go-go - wham
and I havent even got to new kids on the block, debbie gibson, belinda carlisle, or any of the other obvious easy targets

In fact rock me amadaeus isnt even the worst austrian/german eighties record - the lustig astronaught by die artzte, blue mercedes by david hasselhoff, lots of bad kraftwerk.

If i didnt have work I should be doing right now I could come up with lots worse songs.

4. Maybe I'm not a democrat :)
I'll tell ya there are damn few DUers that have the same musical loves that I do.

I wonder if FreeRepublic has music threads :freak:

16. btw, voted amadeus (silly pop)
I happen to like Whitney Houston stuff from the 80s and 90s. And Bon Jovi from the mid 80s is good hard rock for drinking to.

6. Hmm...
Lots of dreck on the above list...however...

I remember 1986 and 1987 as the years that artists like U2, REM, Midnight Oil, Bruce Hornsby, David & David, Peter Gabriel, and the Beastie Boys suddenly hit the big time. Things were looking up after the 1984-85 dry spell.

7. Keep in mind, though, these polls are exclusively about #1 singles.

No matter what time period you're talking about, there's going to be *some* good music on the charts.

8. Had to go with Dionne Warwick
That song was a real snoozer. But let me tell you they are all bad. I was also real close to pulling the lever for Bon Jovi.

9. Hey, I have a soft spot for GLOA
That song always reminds me of childhood and feeling good about myself (I still do, pretty much, but there's something about feeling that way when you're eight). Yeah, Whitney's a crackhead, but I didn't know that then. :)

15. These threads should all come with all of the above as an option.
I find that "Rock Me Amadeus" is the least offensive to me but that's not saying a whole lot. I voted for Cutting Crew.

17. This list is not as bad as the previous ones
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 12:08 AM by notmyprez
I actually kinda like a couple of the songs, the others I either don't like or mercifully don't know (or don't remember). There aren't any that I intensely hate, as I did all the songs on those other lists, so I couldn't make a choice.

edited for typo
