"A Clockwork Orange" on INHD This Month
Damn I love this movie...and it is becoming ever more relevant every day.

Free will vs. safety? Great movie to flesh out Benjamin Franklin's quote "A person who trades liberty for temporary security deserves neither."

What did you think of this flick?

8. Well, it has been a very long time since I've seen the movie...
But I'll work on my appreciation of "ironic misogyny"....

10. IT'S NOT A MISOGYNISTIC MOVIE!!!!
AAAARRRGHHH! Was "The Color Purple" a misogynist movie? Was "Sophie's Choice" a misogynistic movie?

Was "Shindler's List" an anti-semetic movie?

6. Yes, funny how irony is missed so easily?
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 08:29 PM by absyntheNsugar
The film, in addition to asking the question "Free will vs Safety" was also a stunning indictment on violence in our culture, and in society in general. The nihilist attitude of the rape scenes makes you stand back and question the same scenes when presented much more sugary...

7. Well, I suppose
that when people are looking for an axe to grind, they'll usually have no problem finding one...even ones that aren't really there.

11. Just saying
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 08:36 PM by opiate69
That if someone went into the experience looking for misogyny, they'd only focus on the images which support their preconceived notion, and miss the bigger picture, much like our Jade Fox... see also the thread in this very forum about the country song...some people just seem to need to see boogey men everywhere...

On Edit: Do'h! I see that you edited yours, and now get it, thus rendering this post remarkably redundant... oh well.. screw it.. pass the beer...

14. So you also find Shindlers List Anti-semetic
because it shows Jews being killed?

And I assume you find Roots to be racist...because it depicts blacks going through their holocaust...

18. pure cinema, a film of ideas, maybe the greatest adaptation from a novel..
Kubrick at his best. Brazil, though not nearly as good is another film that becomes more relevant too.

Another film, which i hear is being remade, Farhenheit 451, comes to mind everytime I see pharmaceutical ads for anti-depressents. Remember the scenes with the girl watching TV?
