It tries to make all homosexuals look like ditzy superficial-women-in-men's-bodies. I'd rather see TV shows about the lives of Allen Ginsberg, Oscar Wilde...hell even Roy Cohn and J. Edgar Hoover...just for people to realize that gays aren't "weirdos with gender-issues".

I remember a conversation with an Evanglist lady about this show. She said she loved it because it showed "us" how "abnormal" these "people" are.

I never would imagine a progressive liking this show, but there's a first for everything

Let's see, my partner (a progressive), my best friend (a progressive), my two lesbian friends (partners and progressives) think "Queer Eye" is a riot.

Sorry, but I KNOW some guys that act like that. Carson is by FAR the most "flaming", Kyan is pretty hot and could "pass" if that's exceptable to not offend.

The show is a COMEDY!! Face the facts, there are gay men out there that are over the top and god damn it, I am PROUD to be one of them!

Y'know, I realize that the hand-swinging "obviously gay" stereotype is just that, but this particular stereotype exists because MANY gays fit that description quite well. If you don't believe it, visit a gay bar some time!

I fail to see how gay men being themselves on national television qualifies as "homophobic trash". Who cares what the fundies take away from it...you can't ask people to stop being themselves simply because it elicits a strong reaction from others. That itself is homophobic!

10. I don't agree at all...

In fact, most of the freeper homophobes I know (and sadly, I know several), can't stand the show. The very thought of "nice" straight guys allowing gay men to advise them, look at them, hug them is utterly repulsive to the bigoted set.

And while there's plenty of humor in the show, I find many of their suggestions interesting and informative.

My freeper mother enjoys the show, and it's allowed me to have good conversations with her. "That guy you think has good taste in clothes? Did you know that if his partner -- no matter how long they've been together -- were in the hospital, he could legally be kept from visiting?"

It's NOT turned her into a straight ally of the GLBT community, but it HAS allowed me to plant some seeds about the reasonableness and ultimate fairness of gay marriage, and has showed her that gay men are not people to be scared of.

I've never seen the show -- I've only discussed it with her when she brought it up. So I don't know about the stereotypical thing you've saying. It has opened a door for conversations that have helped, though.

wouldn't it be more helpful to have shows that show that homosexuals are just the same as everyone else except they have a different sexual preference? How about a show about people J. Edgar Hoover and Roy Cohn and people like that to demonstrate that being gay doesn't mean you're a communist or a terrorist or whatever Freepers think.

it'd be great for LGBT people to have a representation of them expansively--in all colors, sizes, ages, etc. (none of which Queer Eye does)--but until then, we can enjoy our Tom, Jai, Carson, Kyan, and what's his name alongside Ellen, Jack, and Karen as the best queers on TV. And we salute them in their failures to fully represent the diversity of the community and in their successes at humanizing LGBT people in mass culture.

Coming from someone that has had his light punched out because I'm gay, the previous post pisses me off.

I'm GLAD that there are people like Anti-NAFTA that are outraged and mad, but attacking "Queer Eye" because of the way "they are" is plain wrong.

Yeah, we do need more "positive" images on TV for gays and lesbians. But let's not ignore that FACT that many gay men ARE like the Fab Five.

This is a subject that works my last gay nerve. When I was younger, my best freind at the time (a lesbian) kept trying to "butch" me up. In her opinion the reason I couldn't get a date was that I was too fem or flaming. WRONG. The reason I couldn't get a date was because I lived in Bakersfield!!

In short, over the years I came to love myself for who I am. I spent years in the gym, on couch learning to love the loud mouth some times pumped up fag that I am!

21. Attacking Queer Eye is not wrong.

Sure, there are probably plenty of gays who act extravagantly feminine and are fixated on beauty products just like how there are Jewish misers and drug addicted blacks. But that such people exist doesn't condone TV to exploit these stereotypes. It would be nice if by exploiting these stereotypes on TV the viewers would feel more sympathy for the minorities being mocked, but that's not the case. Take the minstrel shows of yore for example: They didn't evoke virulent loathing of blacks; instead, they made blacks the subject of mockery and got white people thinking "Those poor negroes are so stupid." That's exactly what Queer Eye does; it makes conservatives and probably many other heterosexuals look down at gays. Maybe it makes them hate gays less, but it doesn't promote a viewpoint other than that of gays as different and abnormal.
