Since we're on the subject of hugs...
I guess I could use one myself today. But mine is a totally selfish motive.

I live in Texas and I'm surrounded by a bunch of Republicans that simply don't get it. The good ole boys are passing around photoshopped photos of Palin in a miniskirt and heels and laughing about what a babe she is. They don't realize what is really at stake here. Particularly a woman's right to safe medical treatment.

On top of that, several women that I know are defending Palin as some sort of role model.

Good grief!!! Role model? Please give me a break. She's a disaster. The facts speak for themselves with or without reference to her personal life. It's common sense. But they don't get it.

I guess I'm simply feeling outnumbered today, and it scares me that the Republicans will win the election. Can some of you out there who aren't in such Republican-thick surroundings please help me regain some perspective and give me some real hope for the future and an Obama win? I've suffered through two failed Democratic bids for the white house, eight years of an idiot in the white house (proclaiming to be from Texas no less!) and the prospect of having no relief from that idiocy is a very disturbing thought.

Okay, enough wallowing in self pity. The next site I'm going to visit is Obama's and I'm going to make a donation.

1. I got a hug for ya, hamsterjill
Here in Alabama, it's pretty much the same.

"Gawd Dayum, she's purty! We gone beat us some Obama ass now that we's got us a purty girl runnin fer prezudunt!"

It's scary, sad, disgusting, and I totally feel where you are coming from.

3. Thanks for the laugh!!!
They talk like that in TexUS, too, by golly!!! "Damn, she's got some legs on 'er don't she?"

It really is sad and scary isn't it? One would think the human race would have evolved beyond this sort of thing - particularly in the sanctity of picking a president or vice president.

2. You need to change your pesprective.
Look at your surroundings as a target rich environment. Use the knowledge you gain here at DU and really mess with them. Ask them how they feel about a VP that wanted to leave the Country and take her state with her? As them how Palin would handle a 9/11 type disaster if McCain was out of service, because he was getting another growth removed. Ask them how they think the costs of few more wars will help our ailing economy.

4. Been doing that for years!
Thanks for the advice, and your advice is good and well heeded - but I've already been doing that for years. I make sure that I have facts and figures and clear information to dispute the Republican talking points. Don't want to come across as an ill-informed "libural" after all.

But these idiots don't care about any of that. They care only about being part of a club and they fear anything that does not conform to their idea of what is "normal"...and in Texas, "them liburals ain't normal, you know? Them sob's wanna take our guns away!" (Sarcasm, of course).

I have made my donation and wish it could have been a lot more. I just hope the rest of the country is smarter than the people who I am surrounded by.

Please keep up the good fight on your end (as will I, even if it is to no avail). The fact that people like you exist gives me comfort.

5. I hear ya, that can be challenging
perhaps you could upset the men by playing on their sexist attitudes. Talk about how much better the Country will be when McCain has to step down for health reason and Palin takes over.
