I just had an email in my "suspected spam" box from Modells.com, a sporting goods site. The subject was "Free Shipping on Baseball and Softball Gloves!"

Now, most of you have seen my picture. I have not been in ball-playing shape for quite some time now; moreover, the arthritis in my spine and my titanium & linguine right ankle would not allow me to play. But what did I do? Instantly I began to browse Modells, looking at gloves. Imagining the joy of breaking the leather; imagining the feel of it under my fingers as I massage in the oil; imagining the intoxicating smell . . . remembering the feel of the dirt under my spikes, the smell of the grass . . . GAWD, I miss playing ball! :cry:

Do you have a similar addiction? Something that so engrossed you that it seems part of your DNA? Something you just can't believe is gone for you forever?

9. oh man,

now you have me wanting to play softball. Haven't been able to for 4 or so years now- the knees finally demanded payback for years of athletic abuse. Every spring when I hear the song "Centerfield" by John Fogerty, I can't decide whether to cry or get up on a table and dance!
