4. Agreed, and...
...Billy Gibbons is calling the upcoming new album a "return to the roots"...

ZZ Top knows exactly what they've done and how they've done it. The drums & synths thing has pretty much played itself out and it's now or never for a "comeback" album. They chose comeback. The proof will be in the digital pudding.

8. Yes it was, and no it wasn't...
...because they still held onto all of the MTV-era crap that separated them from their "Tejas" roots.

I'm a fan, so if Billy wants to call the new album a return to the roots, I'll give him a second chance.

If it happens a third time, I'll freely acknowledge it as "Billy blowing smoke up my ass."

3. Have Mercy
Been waitin' on the bus all day.

I'd guess if they were stripped down to a dobro, a string bass and a 3pc set with brushes, they'd still smoke your blues away. :)

6. The first until about 75 or so...
definitely the latter afterwards
And I like synths. Hate drum machines, though...

10. Synths have their momenst, drum machines belong in the storage lockers at Gitmo.

There's a jazz / new age guitarist named Chuck Loeb. Very talented, very famous, and the son of a bitch LIVES for drum machines. They've sunk the majority of his albums because you'll be hearing this very nice fluid guitar accompanied by fucking KRAFTWERK in the background.

"Vir fahn fahn fahn on der Autobahn" my ASS!

9. We who love "Da Blues"
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 07:12 PM by Bluzmann57
owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to that "Lil ol' band from Texas". They have been among the heaviest contributors to the Blues Foundation and they are singlehandedly (triple handedly?) responsible for the restoration of Muddy Waters' boyhood home and turning it into a tourist attraction. And LaGrange is nothing more than a remake of Mr. John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillen" as are many other GREAT Rock tunes. That being said, I love ZZ Top. I've seen 'em three times, drank beer with Frank Beard, and will see them again if given the chance.
On edit- I just want to add a contact to keep the great American music known as The Blues alive. www.blues.org. The official site of the Blues Foundation. Thank you.

12. Even with the synths and drum machines
they were still 100% bad ass. Still are. ZZ Top can do no wrong in my book.
