1. I had the bumper sticker that says this on my car for years.
Someone told me it was anti-Semitic because it plays to the idea that Jews are "money-grubbers." That would never have occurred to me in a billion years, but there you are.

4. Yes, I'd call it anti-Semitic
It plays up on a racial stereotype. Why not just say "Moses was a hook-nosed, money-grubbing Heb?"

15. That didn't occur to me.
I had never heard of Jews being described that way. The only bad thing I'd ever heard about Jews in my life when I got that bumper sticker were that they had killed Jesus.

The only people I've ever heard mention that stereotype in my life were Jews themselves.

I thought the sticker was cute, like the one that says "Jesus Saves...Passes to Buddha...Buddha Shoots! Scores!!"

I thought it was a play on "Jesus Saves" in the same way.

5. not to worry
It's the same thing as southern baptist preachers come to LA and complaining that there are far too many porno channels and why...they had to endure four hours of it!!!
The first to laugh at themselves are jews - i was born one though i dont follow any relligion now.
People will find anything to complain or raise a cause about - its called emptiness of soul or sheer and utter boredom.

7. I'm Jewish
I'd hardly describe myself as having an "emptiness of soul" or suffering from "sheer and utter boredom."

10. not meant personally
I am talking about the many busy bodies we have who are constantly looking for something to attack or become self righteous about.
Heres an example - a preacher in the south somewhere wanted to close a pre school place because the children who were dropped off early watched Sesame St till the school began. Why did he want to close the school? Because Bert and Ernie live together, they must be homosexual, therefore the children are learning to be homosexual as well.If he had something better to do with his life he would never thought of that. I really dont know of anyone who sees it in that way.
sickos are sickos

8. I'm jewish, and I heard it more than once growing up..... it was one of
the first ethnic jokes I ever heard and it always reminded me of shecky greene/ henny youngman. I posted it because Jesus seems to be in the news. Yeah it is racist but not like calling us cheap, horned, hoofed, and human sacrificers.

9. Hockey fans will like this one ...
Jesus saves ... Satan scores on the rebound

There is a hockey player named Satan. It's not pronounced like the great evil one, and I'm no good at providing a pronouncable spelling.

There is a "Sh" sound at the beginning.

Cheers
Drifter

13. I always heard that as...
Jesus saves...Gretzky gets the rebound! He shoots, he scores!

I'm going to have to ask my (Jewish) fiance about "Moses invests," but I always sort of took that as a pro-Jewish statement, implying that Moses was smarter (at least with money) than Jesus, because investing is supposed to get better returns than just saving!

I mean (yenta voice) yeah, you wanna put money away, but that macher, he knows how to turn a profit! ;-)

16. In the context of American capitalist culture
being good with money and investing it wisely is seen as a positive. For the most part being wealthy is not seen as a negative. As a matter of fact Calvinism (which is the foundation of American Christianity in so many ways) holds that if one is wealthy then it is proof that one has found favor with the Almighty. However, throughout most of Jewish history things surrounding money have always been seen as a negative especially when it came to Jews. Sure Jews were kind of forced into banking and such by the Catholic church who did not allow them to own land and thus become farmers like others in the dominant Christian community. It was also against church law to charge interest on loans so since Jews were seen as beyond the pale as far as being saved, usury was left up to them.

This is why Jews tend to be a bit sensitive when the words money, rich, and Jews are used in the same sentence. Again it's different when a member of the tribe (MOT) says it, just as it's different when African Americans use a certain word.
