USC's Mike Williams leaving early for NFL draft
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 04:02 PM by Neo Progressive
I personally believe this was a financially stupid move. The kid is enterring an NFL draft class that is LOADED with wide reciever talent (Larry Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, etc.) and he is unlikely to be drafted as high this year as he would have been next year.

Also my Cowboys are going to trade Joey "12 Million Dollars Down the Toilet" Galloway for Keyshawn and maybe get Corey Dillon while drafting JP Lossman. Cowboys will be in the Super Bowl next year, you can all quote me to your friends when it happens :D

Very, very stupid. Second-round at best.

2. thats what they told Roy Williams
and look at him now. Last year he would have been top 3. Now he is lucky if he is top 3 RBs. I think Mike is doing the smart thing. College sports is a farce.

Keep dreaming about the Cowboys Neo. Last I looked Urkel was still your QB.

5. a few things

Roy Williams is a wideout, not a running back :P.

And he's still going to be taken in the top ten. He would not have been a top three pick last year because Charles Rogers and Andre Johnson had much more hype, and Carson Palmer was all but assured of being the top pick.

The Cowboys are going to replace Urkel. It's up in the air whether they pursue Corey Dillon or Kurt Warner. If they get Corey Dillon, they'll draft JP Lossman of Tulane, who'll run shit in Dallas. If they get Warner, they'll draft the kid from Michigan, and still do a damn good job. Either way, the Cowboys will win the NFC East, and the NFC Championship.

edit: changed from "wideout" to pick

I doubt J.P. Losman is a Parcells type player
Losman transferred from UCLA to a pathetic Tulane team because he is remarkably self absorbed. He admittedly wanted to QB a team with no strong points, so success or failure rested entirely on his shoulders.

Losman has a good arm and a very quick release. But he is mistake prone and several members of the LA media don't exactly share glowing personal reviews, based on the UCLA years.

4. they're losing their best cornerback
anyone can be a runningback in this league, but a good cover corner is rare. Champ Bailey is much more valuable to the Skins than Clinton Portis will be.

6. Mike Williams is a great player, who will be a top ten draft pick
He is bigger, faster, and stronger the Larry Fitzgerald. Williams has the ability to score a TD anytime he touches the ball. Fitzgerald's lack of speed will hurt him in the NFL.

I wish he would have stayed at USC so they could repeat as National champs. Without him I don't think USC will have enough offense to be champs again.

7. Remember these names: Fred Davis and Dwayne Jarrett
They are absolute freak athletes who USC recruited to play wide receiver this year, both in the 6'4" to 6'5" range. Davis, in particular, looks like a chiseled man among boys.

Not enough offense at USC? Whooaa nelly, try again! The skill positions are loaded with young talent. Our line should dramatically improve, with the addition of blue chip blockers to rival early '80s caliber. Norm Chow returns, with the sophisticated but freshman-friendly attack. Lefty returns. #5 returns.

I completely agree about Mike Williams' draft status, SEABurb. Easy top 10 assuming a decent 40 time. No idea where that second round assessment came from.

8. This stuff really bothers me..
I know that professional athletes have a "shelflife", but when colleges dole out HUGE scholarships, pay for test takers tutors , and then the players leave early, it's like a lot of money is wasted..

I wish colleges would go back to what they used to do.. TEACH..

Hire players to represent the schools, pay them, and quit pretending that they are "students" who happen to play ball..

Save the scholarships for the middle income kids who cannot afford to go, and even though they get good grades, there are never enough scholarships/grants available to them..

The least likely of students (athletes) make a lot of money for the schools, so everyone pretends that they are students, but we all knwo the truth.. Lots of these guys cannot even read..

It's got to be easier to teach scholars to play ball, than to try to teach (some) athletes to learn..

Everyone pretends that the system we have now is great, but it just hurts everyone..

9. why not?
no one could stop Mike Williams last season--6 foot 5, 225-230, big, strong and great hands. He's not a burner I'll admit that, BUT he is a suoer wide receiver. The Raiders could sure use him. (I know that Fritz is the more highly rated WR, but Williams is BIGGER in size and that much harder to stop)
