3. Into the Mystic
"We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when the fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it

And I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And magnificently we will flow into the mystic

When that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it

And I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will flow into the mystic
Come on girl..."

2. I've known many musicians who consider "Moondance" to be the single best song
ever written. And I don't think you'll find anyone who knows anything about music who doesn't consider "Astral Weeks" to be one of the two or three best albums, ever.

Were I to be forced to listen to only one album for the rest of my life, I'd be hard-pressed to choose any other one than Astral Weeks.

There goes a pure musician, indeed.

4. Title song to Astral Weeks:
Lyrics to Astral Weeks :

"If I ventured in the slipstream
Between the viaducts of your dream
Where immobile steel rims crack
And the ditch in the back roads stop
Could you find me?
Would you kiss-a my eyes?
To lay me down
In silence easy
To be born again
To be born again
From the far side of the ocean
If I put the wheels in motion
And I stand with my arms behind me
And I'm pushin' on the door
Could you find me?
Would you kiss-a my eyes?
To lay me down
In silence easy
To be born again
To be born again
There you go
Standin' with the look of avarice
Talkin' to Huddie Ledbetter
Showin' pictures on the wall
Whisperin' in the hall
And pointin' a finger at me
There you go, there you go
Standin' in the sun darlin'
With your arms behind you
And your eyes before
There you go
Takin' good care of your boy
Seein' that he's got clean clothes
Puttin' on his little red shoes
I see you know he's got clean clothes
A-puttin' on his little red shoes
A-pointin' a finger at me
And here I am
Standing in your sad arrest
Trying to do my very best
Lookin' straight at you
Comin' through, darlin'
Yeah, yeah, yeah
If I ventured in the slipstream
Between the viaducts of your dreams
Where immobile steel rims crack
And the ditch in the back roads stop
Could you find me
Would you kiss-a my eyes
Lay me down
In silence easy
To be born again
To be born again
To be born again
In another world
In another world
In another time
Got a home on high
Ain't nothing but a stranger in this world
I'm nothing but a stranger in this world
I got a home on high
In another land
So far away
So far away
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
In another time
In another place
In another time
In another place
Way up in the heaven
Way up in the heaven
We are goin' up to heaven
We are goin' to heaven
In another time
In another place
In another time
In another place
In another face

8. I used to play that song.
Back when I played Irish music in bars. It made a nice break from the standard sing-alongs.

God damn, I miss being a musician.

19. No. I haven't been able to play for 12 years now, and it breaks Mrs R's hearts as much
as it does mine. She used to look forward to my practice time every evening, and never missed an opportunity to see me play in public.

But when you can't hold your left arm up for more tha 30 seconds (as I can't anymore), playing a guitar isn't going to happen.

God, I miss it.

Just to listen to; not to burn.

18. Sorry, zanne. I'm not the one to ask
because my computer is a cheap dial-up and doesn't do the internet music. That's why I'm posting only the lyrics, because that's the best I can do.

Yes, try to get some kind of recording. He's a great songwriter, but I think that he is an even better singer. Have you heard him sing? There are no words to describe the beauty or the soul...

26. I love his music primarily because it's literate...
But I do love the music, too. I would have loved to hear a younger Van Morrisson in concert.

6. Moondance!
Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

Chorus:
Can I just have one a' more Moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

Well, I wanna make love to you tonight
I can't wait 'til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you can't hide

Chorus

Repeat 1st Verse

One more Moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight
On a magic night
Can I just have one more moon dance with a-you
My love.

7. Amazing...my husband was just saying last night how...
happy he is that Van Morrison is still around and making good music.

Maybe because his birthday is coming up, the DJ's are playing
more of his music this week.

9. Thanks, Tikki.
:) I'm glad he is still recording music. I think it's part of the blues tradition to go on singing until you fall over...

I heard that recent album he did got on the Country Charts in America!

16. He's a genius. Someone Like You
"I've been searching a long time
For someone exactly like you
I've been travelling all around the world
Waiting for you to come through.
Someone like you makes it
All worth while
Someone like you keeps
Me satisfied. Someone exactly
Like you.
I've been travellin' a hard road
Lookin' for someone exactly like you
I've been carryin' my heavy load
Waiting for the light to come
Shining through.
Someone like you makes it
All worth while
Someone like you keeps
Me satisfied. Someone exactly
Like you.

I've been doin' some soul searching
To find out where you're at
I've been up and down the highway
In all kinds of foreign lands
Someone like you...

I've been all around the world
Marching to the beat of a different
Drum.
But just lately I have
Realised
The best is yet to come.
Someone like you... "

23. My favorite, definitely "Moondance."
Interesting memory: The first time I ever did it (which I knew was going to happen that night), my boyfriend and I were hanging out in his room and I can remember hearing "Brown Eyed Girl" on the radio. That's the only song I remember from that night and I'm not even sure why I remember it.

Recently I heard "Jackie Wilson Said" on the radio and that was my earworm for a few weeks. Good earworm, but I couldn't stop singing it. Uh oh! Now I'll probably start singing it again. :-)

24. Great story, notmyprez.
:) It's really romantic music.

Jackie Wilson, have you ever heard any Jackie Wilson songs? Oh, course there is "Reet Petite" that Van mentions, but I love "Baby Work Out."

Jackie Wilson Said:
"Da, da, da, da, da,
Jackie Wilson said
It was "Reet-Petite"
Kinda love you got
Knock me off my feet
Let it all hang out
Oh, let it all hang out.
And you know
I'm so wired-up
Don't need no coffee in my cup
Let it all hang out
Let it all hang out.

Watch this:
Ding-a-ling-a-ling
Ding-a-ling-a-ling-ding
Ding-a-ling-a-ling
Ding-a-ling-a-ling-ding
Do-da-do-da
I'm in heaven, I'm in heaven
I'm in heaven, when you smile
When you smile, when you smile
When you smile.
And when you walk
Across the room
You make my heart go
Boom-boom-boom
Let it all hang out
Baby, let it all hang out
And ev'ry time
You look that way
Honey chile, you make my day
Let it all hang out
Like the man said: let it all hang out."
