Please hold for an important message from......
fill in the blank.

Do you ever get these calls? I just got yet another one, usually several a week. The phone rings, I answer, there is a delay, and then a recording comes on and tells me to wait!?!!?!?!
Why in the fuck should stay on hold because a machine told me to and try and have shit sold to me?

Is this a way around for the telemarketers and the no calls thing? Just curious how many others here get these ludicrous calls?

I'm on a callout list if there's a big problem (tornado, flood, missing person).

12. Yeah, why do they even think that works?
Everyone I know will just hang up if they hear a recording on the other end when they pick it up. Do you know anyone who would sit and listen? That's retarded. Unless I'm holding for someone famous or for Bill Clinton live and personal, I'm hanging up.

2. Stay on the line and wait until they give out the toll-free # to call.
Call the number and ask to be put on the No Call list. I just did this 2 minutes ago. Should have done it much sooner.

10. I get a weird one every once in a while...
It's a recording and the only thing they say is, "Sorry, wrong number". Now what in the heck is that about?

4. If it's telemarketers , it's illegal
.
.
.

They only have a few seconds to identify the company and what their product is . .

and "on-line" time is precious to them, so I doubt it is telemarketers,

at least not any of the larger companies anyways. . .

5. I've been getting these calls this week!
The phone rings 2, 3 times a day with these calls -- you pick up, and get a split-second of dead air, then a voice message says "Please hold, all of our representatives are busy."

I'm behind the times right nows -- I don't have caller ID, so I do not know the source of the calls. But next time it happens, I AM gonna hold and see who the hell it is.

Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 02:02 PM by Tripper11
it just stunned me, and yes, Allen, I agree that they think if you are stupid enough that your credit card number will just roll out of your mouth.
it still stuns me though.

9. pet peeve
If someone's going to interrupt my day by making my phone ring, they have no right to ask me to "hold".

Be ready to speak to me when you call.... or I hang up.
