Please see this for the reference.

So to further show how much of a perv I am, here are some more hummingbird images from my backyard. ;)

I have a brazilion bird ID at home to go along with my several pairs of binocs.
I love the outdoors. Just don't get to go outside and play so much, since I've been ill.x(

I thought we were a more sedated bunch, but voyeurs I suppose tend to be more sedate. :)

I probably should hang out in the birders forums here. But I always try to check out Maestro's amazing photo threads..
I'd love to see a stork! I've got a lot of egrets, herons and other waders covered but no storks..

5. When my cat started killing them
Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 02:13 PM by pokerfan
I had to start hanging the outside flowers. The lil' bastard would park himself beside a flower motionless, just waiting.

Nice pics.

15. My cat is just the opposite.
When I set up my equipment in the garden and then sit in my chair behind the camera, my cat comes out and sprawls out underneath either the chair or the equipment. She could care less about the hummers. Although an occasional mourning dove will catch her attention.

29. Thanks for the hummer pix, you perv.
:P

In all seriousness, I needed these pix right now. My local hummingbird slammed into the new window and killed himself. I think the green cast to the new window confused him. He was always a scary flyer, cutting off the chase at the very last second --I guess it caught up with him. His lifeless body was so tiny and delicate yet devoid of the brilliant feather displays. I placed his body in the tall grass to let the night creatures complete the natural cycle.

49. That is actually pretty common.
There is not too much you can do about it. Birds just see a clear area and they blast right into them. I've seen birds do it and knock themselves silly but survive. Other do not survive. You did the right thing placing it in the grass. Nature will take care of it in a matter of hours.

53. Some barrio-boy lore: Politically INcorrect, so be warned!1
This old man in S. Texas (well, he's barely older than I am) told me that when he was a kid down near the border, this woman would pay the kids a nickel per hummer because she would press their (wing?) feathers into a book.

He said his method of killing the birds was to turn a hose on them, and they would drop down, then (you know, MURDER).

I'm sorry.

But in my yard, I was just standing there, and this hummer STOPPED and perched, and was SO curious!1 He (she/whatever) was about 3 feet away, and turned its head to look at me with one eye, then would turn to look at me with the other eye. It stayed the longest time, and CLOSE to me.

Gorgeous pics, Maestro. I believe this is what your inner self is like.
