‘Star Trek’ legend’s career at warp speed
"Star Trek” legend George Takei has seen his career blossom since he went public about his homosexuality in 2005. Besides tongue-in-cheek appearances on “Will & Grace,” “Cory in the House” and “Psych,” he’s become a favorite guest on the Howard Stern radio show.

And he nabbed his biggest role in years playing Hiro’s father on NBC’s hit show “Heroes.” He’ll be at Atlanta’s Dragoncon festival this weekend to meet fans and gab about “Heroes,” the upcoming “Star Trek” film and his upcoming nuptials.

1. I hope we're beginning to see the end of the "being out will destroy your career" thing.
Neil Patrick Harris, T.J. Knight, Sir Ian McKellan...none of their careers have suffered since they came out. We really need to get past that nonsense.

And I'm delighted that George Takei is working steadily. He's having a pretty good year...a thriving career, his marriage. :-)

11. I hope so too
Anti-gay nonsense has been going on entirely too long. Homosexuality shouldn't have to hide.

3. I never saw that show. Had I known....
I'm glad for him. I sure like him on ST and still do. I like the show where he gets that sword and starts swishing around the decks.

6. Commander Scott was a guy I'd liked to have gone drinking with...
The antithesis of our creepy Little Lord Pissypants George W. Bush.

And Sulu would have been one hell of a buddy to take shore leave with.

12. Indeed.
Remember that episode when they were on shore leave..Scotty and Checkov and the Romulans(?) were making fun of Cap'n Kirk and Checkov asked Scotty if he was going to do anything about it and Scotty called him lad and made him keep his cool. Yet when the Romulan guy said the Enterprise should be hauled off as garbage ole Scotty decked him and a fight broke out. Too funny.

7. So, will it be a sweaty, shirtless fencing scene?
Even if he's just fencing stolen silverware, I think he should insist on such a scene.

9. Good guy; great sense of humor.
One of my favorite bits from the Stern show is a prank call using snippets of his voice from an audiobook to let out a string of absurd and obscene sentences. George laughed the loudest at it. :D

here it is. Not for the easily offended, or for those with sensitive ears. Listening to George's trademark guffaw in the background is priceless.
