Am I strange because I like to travel alone?
My husband is great to travel with and we always have fun but for the most part, I prefer to travel alone. No compromises, I can eat when and where I want, stop when I want, see what I want...

People always seem surprised when I take one of my solitary jaunts and seem to think it's because I don't have anyone to go with - I just prefer it. Oh, and they also seem to think it's odd because I'm a woman. :eyes:

So anyone else feel like I do about it or am I really that odd?

I don't think it's unusual at all. :-)

3. I travel alone all the time...and I work for the airlines, so I'm talkin about 4 times a year.
To places outside of the US. Pretty much for the same reasons as everyone else who likes to. Going at your own pace, not having to wait for anyone, being an observer as opposed to tunneling yourself when you're concentrating on someone else. As for company, I've met great people all over the world who're either locals or fellow travelers and they're totally friendly and fun to pass the time with. Now that there's email, it's easy to blog and stay in touch with those at home, you can get the USB port card reader and send pix straight away--so you never feel lonely. Eating dinner alone isn't even a contention: half the time others invite you to join them, and you can either take them up on it or politely say you're working.

Maybe it's something you have to do once you're older, but seriously, I got sick of waiting for friends and boyfriends to get the time off and then listen to them complain about everything or want to stop every three blocks because they're tired. Best to save relationships by taking separate vacations!

7. I've met so many fun and interesting people traveling alone
That's a good point. I'm going to DC and Virginia next week and I can't wait. And some of my friends are shocked that my husband's not going. Doesn't bother him, I don't know why it should bother them.

4. No!
I'm right there with you. And frankly traveling alone means so much more interesting adventures - because people tend to want to socialize with you.

if you are with someone else - then you are pretty much stuck with 'em.

9. My wife and I travel very well together, but I would rather go alone than
with anyone besides her. I also like backpacking alone, usually for 5-6 days or so...
