Confederate flag - my 18 yo niece has one in her room.
Saw it today. She is pregnant by her 24 yo boyfriend who my sister lets live in there home. I asked her why she allowed it and she said that you have to pick your battles.

29. Won't ALLOW your niece to come see you?
Cutting a person off from family and friends is a warning sign of an abuser.

3. Burn the flag...
Or better yet, burn that cretin of a boyfriend. It's not going to be easy for her or her child if he slithers away like the vile snake I'm prejudging him to be right now.

a meth lab can't be too far away

In all seriousness, she needs to get away from him

18. my sister and her husband
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 08:25 PM by blue cat
have lost all control of their daughter. they are hard nosed christian republicans whose 17 yo daughter got pregnant by a 24 yo felon who can't keep a job. they let him move in with them while he is learning the plumber trade. it's a crazy situation. he found himself a meal ticket. he is a grifter in my opinion. he got her pregnant on purpose thinking her family had money, especially compared to him. my niece has tourettes and an anger problem so she rules the household. now she is 18 yo, getting ready to go to college supposedly, 5 months pregnant, and gets to keep her boyfriend in her room as if they were a married couple.

when i found out she was pregnant, i told her to keep her options open, so that makes me the bad guy according to her boyfriend, who is the only person she talks to. she has no contact with any her friends anymore.

oh, and he stole my ipod, i'm sure of it, and a phone from a visiting relative.

12. Not a person to be trifled with.

If Sherman had ever seen a Confederate Battle Flag, he'd have shot at it.

Not crying for the burning of the flag, but I hate that a lot of our history got burned up in the war.

I told them it was the "universal symbol of stupid people."

I'll never forget the day I was riding with the windows open, and my ten year-old shouts, "Hey Dad, look - that guy has the universal symbol of stupid people on the front of his car!"

Oy.

28. We think alike
Yesterday, while going out for ice cream with my wife, my cousin and her fiance, we saw a fellow walking down the street with a Confederate flag t-shirt on. While the others speculated about why anyone would want to wear one, I pointed out that at least it let us know who the stupid people were and that it made them easy to avoid.

Edited on Mon Aug-25-08 02:41 AM by Hippo_Tron
Or put another way, I don't really make a point of prominently displaying it. I bought it at a county fair in upstate New York simply because it was too ironic of a situation to pass up. When I asked why there was more confederate merchandise here than in the south (where I'm from) the gentleman at the booth explained to me (in a very stereotypical redneck accent) that "there's lots of northern rebels".

i'm from central ohio, and there are all kinds of idiots with battle flags there. they even have "the south will rise again" bumper stickers, and i think to myself, "well, if they do, you'll be drafted to fight them, because you live in the NORTH, jackass"
