Happy Fishie!!
This is my Crowntail Betta. He was an impulse buy earlier this week after having to make an emergency run to the fish store. I've put him in a two and a half gallon tank and he seems to be loving his new life. He's finally made a bubble nest! I've had a few bettas and none of them have ever made one. He doesn't have a name yet, so if you have suggestions, throw them out there. Although, I will say that I'm not naming him Bubbles - too cliche.

So without further ado here is my betta and his bubble nest.

1. Uh....
Bubbles?

Look, I have a leopard gecko named Fluffy. I may not be the person to ask about naming pets.

6. Hi Peggy!
You can see why I had to buy him!

He doesn't necessarily need a name. He's a fish, after all. ;)

I am enjoying my new fishie! Thanks!

7. A bubble nest?
The best we can do here is a VERY large goldfish. We got him from the Cub Scout fishing pond booth at the school carnival when my now 16-year-old son was about 6, I think. Maybe younger, even. And he's still at it. He was very small - feeder fish size. Now, he's longer than your hand.

8. Isn't that crazy?
The males makes the bubble nests for the females to spawn the eggs, and then he guards the bubbles. :)

I got a goldfish from a carnival once. That thing lived forever! It was actually pretty surprising since I just had it in a bowl with no gravel, filter, nothing....just a bowl. I spoil my fish now to make up for that.

9. Wow - it's just made of bubbles? How do they stay together?
Rather fascinating, I must say! It's a lovely photo, too. I've never seen such a thing before - and in captivity no less! VERY cool!

11. They make the bubbles with air and saliva.
Bettas are a labyrinth fish, which means he breathes air at the top of the tank. They just go to town taking in air building the bubbles out into a large nest. The bubbles go about 1/8 of an inch above the water. It looks kind of foamy from the top.

Lots of bettas will do that in captivity. It's supposed to be one of the signs that you have a happy fish. :)

13. Whoa! VERY cool! How long does a bubble nest last?
They seem like they'd be such fragile things.

If it's a sign of a happy fish, your fish appears to be ecstatic!

14. He built a small one yesterday.
I think that the filter broke that one up, and he built this one today. I have no idea how long they will last, and it's hard to tell how often he'll build one. Some are perpetual builders, some build every couple weeks, others once a month, and some don't even build then until the eggs are already spawned. I just happened upon one that likes to build them, I guess.

It's really cute when he guards it. He just sits very still underneath it and then flares his fins.

Him's a vewy scawy fishy! Yes, him is!!

12. Love Sardine and Kipper!
Those are great names.

I'm trying to get some Endlers for my 20 gallon tank. They don't like to sell the females at the stores around here. I don't know what the point of having live bearers are if they won't sell the females. But they will sell you as many males as you want that will end up killing each other because there are no females. Come back and buy some more! :eyes:

Yeah, he's a nut on bass. He's had the Rick since he was in his teens. I got him a Schecter bass last year. And his mom got him an Ibanez RG Series guitar two years ago so he could play metal on it. Because that's all a guitar is good for to him.
