Should I cash in on the Catholic Church for child abuse?
The Catholic Church is offering a huge settlement for Child Abuse victims.
When I was in Catholic elemetry school I was emotionally and physically abused by a teacher. Not sexually, that I can remember, but there is lots I do remember still all this time later.I was only about 6 years old at the time, so I don't remember it all. But my mother pulled me out of the school soon after and the teacher had about 5 complaints from parents of other children in my teacher's care. My mom tells me stories about how I would tell certain stories about what she did to that got her attention that something was wrong.
The only thing that happened to my teacher was that she was removed from the church. No criminal charges were given.
I don't know if I should bring this up or not, it was long time ago and she was dismissed from the church.

What do you think?

1. You have to decide...
Two points:

1. Shit happens, no one is guaranteed a perfect life.

2. How badly were you hurt by the experience?

If the experience caused you some serious problems that you had to deal with or are still dealing with, go for it.

If it didn't, chalk it up to life experience and leave the lawsuits to the people who were really badly hurt.

Because you CAN sue somebody, doesn't mean it is necessarily the best alternative, even if you have a legitimate grievance. Sometimes it can cause you more trouble than it is worth in the long run.

Just my 2 cents.

6. I don't know how you judge that
It is difficult to determine how much of my problems are realted to that. I have had over $250,000 in insurance for pychological therapy claims between the ages of 6 and 15. But how do you calulate it to that of someone else. Some people probably didn't get any help, others no money could help at all.

I guess it comes down to how the person takes it and for how long it happened and what was done to them.

I know I hate authority figures for sure, lol. But hard to gauage any other things.

3. Go for it
After all, they've been bilking people out of money for over a thousand years.

4. If she was fired back then for abusing kids
and there are records of you being in her class, I don't see why you wouldn't have a case. Of course I don't know what standards have to be met, but abuse is abuse.
