I loved Tropic Thunder. Should I be ashamed?
A good friend asked me to go see it with her and her partner and a mutual friend. Mrs GoS stayed home.

I loved every rude, crude, cringeworthy minute of the whole mutha fuckin', booty sweated, 'tarded movie (And I hate to admit it, even laughed at the Tom Cruise bits). I really liked the little kid who rode on the Stiller characters shoulders as he crossed the bridge, stabbing him in the neck. Priceless!!!

Of course, working in "The Business", I really wanted them all, except for the drug tribe, to end up in boxes, not with an Oscar(especially Jon Voight).

1. laughed till I hurt. We saw it on this huge screen in PHoenix..Capri, or something
I was visiting my daughter
Tom Cruise was hysterical.

and it was a cringer, wasn't it?

and FWIW, the highly criticized segment is far less offensive than some of the other things in that movie.

2. Hell no, I was raised on every damn Vietnam movie ever made as a kid
For me this was uber-funny on so many levels, the DEEPLY closeted rap star was one of the highlights ofd that film.

3. Absolutely -
We've had two movies this summer with closeted guys: Tropic Thunder and Mamma Mia!

Both movies with cringeworthy moments and cryingly funny bits - Brosnan singing "SOS"!

6. PC or not. It is making a ton of money
So obviously most people who are going to see are spreading a positive word to friends and family. I thought it was funny. I didn't laugh as hard as I did watching Pineapple Express though.

7. Totally NOT a PC movie. I was LMAO when we saw it.
I thought it was a riot. Robert Downey Jr. was funny as hell, and the Tom Cruise bits were a scream. I also really enjoyed the agent trying to decide between his client and the new plane.

I honestly think that movie is kinda like Napoleon Dynamite--in that, you either really like it or else you don't get it and think it sucked.

I really enjoyed it and would not hesitate to see it again.

8. My son saw it last night, and recommended it VERY highly.
Said Robert Downey Jr stole the movie and should get an Academy Award..

9. We saw it this afternoon.
I loved it! And I even loved Tom Cruise whom I usually despise. I went to see it because I love Downey Jr. But the whole thing was fun.

10. Yes you should
Jack Black has never been in a good movie, and this is no exception.

11. As a person who
has never been accused of being PC, I say no shame.

I am afraid to post some of the stuff I have written and been paid for, in this place. I would most likely be burned at the stake.

Sad really.

I plan on seeing the movie when my kids start school and I can catch an early showing.

So kill me.

(as for the person who thinks Jack Black has not been in anything worth seeing... well, a lot of people, even here, will disagree.)

17. This may be shocking, but
people, even here, have bad taste.

Lots of people laugh at every movie Will Ferrell puts out, or the ones Adam Sandler are in. Those people have bad taste, sorry if that includes you. There's hope for you if you hate Dane Cook though.

19. I find
what you wrote insulting.
I hate Adam Sandler.
Will Farrel can bite me.

Dane Cook is a hack.

But Jack Black has comedic talent.

People here like to hate. I guess you can feel good about hating me now.

And anytime Tom Cruise showed up (I can't believe I just typed that) Seriously.. he needs to appear in more of these roles... that was just out fucking standing.

14. Mom: Tom Cruise is the best part of the movie
Yes. . I took my Mom to Tropic Thunder . . I am not ashamed

It was a good time. At times a few moments here and there I thought fell short. . but with that being said I would definitely go see it again. I also love the soundtrack throughout the whole movie. I also love the beginning text about how many people survived.. how many wrote books and only one made it into a movie!

I don't think there's too much more I can say. Fun times!

15. Best comedy I've seen in a long time.
It was great to not have a comedy with Apatow's name on it. I loved every minute of it and will be picking this one up on DVD when its available.

whispered through his laughter, "I can't believe Simple Jack was what people found offensive." :D

Oh my, I'll see it just for that scene. Sounds like a delicious send up of the 'get out the four hankies' moment in The Big Red One.

25. Exactly it. I was unimpressed with the writing.
I am so sick of "1 hour comedies" being milked out to 1.5 to 2 hours.

This would be a kick ass 1 hour comedy - get rid of Mcconaghuey and Cruise.

I'm gonna take your word for it. My mother-in-law called and told us we HAD to go see it. She's crazy about Something About Mary and watches loads of TV. So yesterday we went to the movies and I made my husband go see it by himself, I saw the Star Wars movie instead :)

I like comedy but it has to be a little interesting or dark, not just one corny thing piled on another. My husband liked it okay but afterward he said it was NOT for me.
Every time I've looked at this thread I felt so alone.
