34. Another rec for this advice
If you're doing straight shots, make it vodka and have a glass of water for each shot. Avoid sugary drinks or whiskey. Most importantly, have a designated driver, we need more "Dont tutch the but" stories.

3. I agree with Chimps, and
if you go with something like rum, avoid other sugar, and when you're done, drink 2 glasses of water and take 2 ibuprofen before bed. :)

Oh, and don't tutch the butt!! :o

4. Water, water, water
One glass of water for every two drinks, I think it is. Or, if you forget, a huge glass of water and two aspirin before retiring for the night.

22. I always got it in my stomach
I never got a hangover headache, but I was always down for the count for the better part of the "day after" with terrible stomach cramps and overall nausea/ickiness, before a friend turned me on to the water cure. It never occurred to me at the time that it was dehydration (which I've always been very susceptible to, even without drinking too much alcohol).

25. Yeah, I hadn't realized it either. But it makes perfect sense. I do get headaches if
I haven't had enough to drink on a normal day, and alcohol is a major diuretic so no wonder I got headaches the few times I drank in college.

7. I used to get the worst hangovers...
... until I figured out how important it is to drink a ton of water before and after drinking. Before I go out drinking I am always sure to drink a couple BIG glasses of water. Then, a couple of hours before I go to bed I always drink as much water as possible.

I can't guarantee it will totally prevent hangovers, but it will dull them incredibly.

12. Keep eating and drinking.
Especially if you're being pretty active. Partying it up on booze alone is a bad idea.

Drink some water and have a good pee before you go to sleep.

13. 1 aspirin, 1 multivitamin and a big glass of water before sleep
actually, just try to keep drinking water in between drinks too. Also, keep another glass of water next to your bed along with another aspirin for when you wake up.

21. Keep a bottle of water on you at all times.
Between each drink, drink water.
That's what I do. I have never had a hang over, which is just dehydration.

24. oh yeah another - not sure if this works on other kinds of booze
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 09:26 PM by Kali
but when I was in Turkey you had to eat jajik or whatever the version of tsaziki is with the raki (which is like ouzo) so maybe some good quality yogurt at some point. It made a huge difference the next day, for me. At least it will soothe your stomach if it gets bad.

edit to add, as long as I went international - menudo is the local cure if you do get one

27. water and aspirin
a couple of full glasses before bed, and aspirin before the headache.

of course, you could wake up after eight hours of sleep and still be drunk. I've done that.

29. Eat food before you start, drink LOTS of water, and make sure ...
... that you drink one whole glass of water right before going to bed. Don't take Tylenol right before bed as mixing Tylenol and alcohol can be bad for the liver. I think it's okay to take Aspirin or Ibuprofen if you don't have ulcer issues.

My hangovers are usually a "puking hangover" (I don't get headaches.) I just can't hold anything down and retch most of the day. When I have access to Phenergan (either tablets or the more uncomfortable mode of administration) it fixes the problem.

Otherwise I do my "water cure".

Aka, drink water. Throw it up. Drink some more. Repeat cycle until I can hold down one glass of water.

It's not fun and may not be the best way to deal with the issue, but it does help prevent dry-retching, which to me is the most uncomfortable part of a puking hangover.

30. Candied Ginger. Take it in the morning when you wake up. I once worked
in a health food store and the owners would make us try candied ginger when we showed up at work hung over (we were all in our early 20s or late teens). Clears your stomach then will clear your head. It really, really works.
