1. Freedom
Very good performer. I did lose a lot of respect for him after the whole "public bathroom" incident though.

2. Agreed. It would have been so much better

If he had just "come out" before and got his sex the regular way...

It's not like many of us ever thought he was straight anyway...

3. He would've completely had my respect
big time had he come out from the start.
But about the bathroom incident, that conduct is just a little weird from any standpoint regardless of sexual orientation.

4. Again, sure, but...
I don't really care about performers' personal lives, so long as they are not rightwingers, and don't hurt others. What he did was scuzzy and low-class, but no worse than what Hugh Grant did...

Hell I still listen to my Milli Vanilli CD - I don't think of it as "the CD by those 2 frauds, Rob & Fab" I think of it as the CD by those session performers that didn't get the billing they deserved. Funny how C&C Music Factory never got turned into a laughingstock when it was revealed that Martha Wash & not "Zelda" had done all the singing...

5. Freedom - but as far as Wham goes, what about "Careless Whisper"
This is my second "pop culture guilty pleasure" confession in a row, but I loooooove that song... transports me right back to 9th grade.

I'm never going to dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm

19. Ben Folds tore that up live recently
opening for Tori Amos here, and when he got to the "Tonite the music seems so loud..." part, he prefaced it with "Here's the really cool part!"

22. Yes, "Careless Whisper" is a good pop song
also "Everything She Wants".
So I voted other.

7. Sorry - only so much space in the poll.
But I thought there would be more closet GM listeners...

As he's gotten older, he's gotten more socially aware.

13. You mean the new "Blair as a poodle" song?
I never heard it, since radio boycotted all anti-war songs.

"Praying for time" was released as the 1st Gulf War started, and it had the feeling of being anti-war, even if it wasn't explicitly so.

10. It still amazes me that "Praying For Time" went to #1
Such a cynical, depressing song. I love it! "A Different Corner" gets to me, too.

11. I agree - It's my favorite
These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much
But we’ll take our chances
Because God’s stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
Turned his back and all Gods children
Crept out the back door

And its hard to love, there’s so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it’s much, much too late
Well maybe we should all be praying for time

These are the days of the empty hand
Oh you hold on to what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year

This is the year of the guilty man
Your television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there is over here

So you scream from behind your door
Say what’s mine is mine and not yours
I may have too much but I’ll take my chances
Because God’s stopped keeping score
And you cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he can’t come back
Because he has no children to come back for

Its hard to love there’s so much to hate
Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say its much too late
So maybe we should all be praying for time

This part always got to me:

"Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he can’t come back
Because he has no children to come back for"

This was released just as the FIRST fraudulent Gulf War was beginning, and it's grim tone seemed SO appropriate at the time. For me, this song totally redeemed him from his ass-shaking days as an artist.
