Half of households with more than one child spend at least an hour in heated argument, according to a study looking at how we live behind closed doors, carried out by Channel 4 ahead of a new documentary called The Family.

The series follows the ground-breaking Seventies fly-on-the-wall documentary of the same name.

While families may not alway get along, a majority of teenagers defied stereotypes to admit that they did love their parents.

The YouGov poll of 1,000 parents and 500 teenagers found almost half of teenage boys said they would like to marry someone like their mother, while 98 per cent of teenagers admitted they loved their parents.
