...As this lovely summer ends, I realize how much work I have to do come the autumn (important stuff for my career, my life and my wife--not necessarily in that order!), and I need to face the fact that I spend too much time on-line in general. I find myself posting lots of silly little comments to DU and elsewhere that don't really amount to much. While some of my real-life relationships suffer. Because it's sometimes easier for me to type attempts at witticism than it is to pick up the phone, or talk face to face, with people I've neglected, who are important in my life. I think the internet is a valuable and revolutionary tool for communication, but I often find myself using it as a way to isolate and withdraw from the world, even as I tell myself I'm reaching out.

DU'ers are as lovely a bunch as I've met anywhere (though to be honest, I've never met any of you face to face), and I wish you all peace, love and happiness. I'm sure I'll be back, maybe come winter. Vote Obama. And GO STEELERS!
