5. Absolutely
Pineapple is some kind of weird California abomination.
And the best pizza, according to my late mother-in-law, is from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.

31. For the record, I'm not a big deep-dish fan.
But NY pizza tastes like something served in a grade school cafeteria. Like one of those $4 frozen pizzas that is only suitable when the in-laws visit.

With extra grease.

Chicago deep dish is gross, and I'm a life-long Chicagoan.

Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 12:02 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
Deep dish has almost zero to do with authentic pizza from Italy. New York thin crust is about as close as we get here, unless you are lucky enough to have a Neopolitan pizzeria nearby -- which I do. :9 As far as I am concerned, Chicago style is really more a calzone missing its lid.

and I have eaten their pizza since 1964. Toto's pizza is a little different than most because they use a delicious sourdough crust. (I am drooling just thinking about it.) They were forced from town when Daly City took over the land and devloped it -- I was heartbroken and in shock when it happened. :( A few years later they reopened down the peninsula in Belmont -- now I have to drive around 20 minutes to get my Toto's fix, but what are you gonna do when you've had the best??

The sourdough crust sounds delish!

Boy, after all that talk I had to stop by my favorite Neopolitan place on the way home from work and pick up a pie. I just ate it and I am soooooooo happy. Totally worth the extra time on the elliptical tonight. YUM!

29. Both are good
but Chicago style is so heavy that you really have to be in the mood for it.

OTOH, Noo Yawk pizza is always appealing, and Lombardi's in Philly is the gold standard thereof.

38. "NY style" is found up and down the East Coast
at least from Philly northward. Some of the best examples of the breed, in fact, are found in New Haven, CT, where it is not unusual to see lines out the door at the venerable parlors along Wooster St.

Buddy's or Louis DiPrimas-deep dish, but not as deep as Chicago style, and crispier, too.
