Who was a friend of my sisters. Is that creepy? Cause my family had no problem with the guy. I don't think we can judge a relationship based on just age alone.

3. I made it a separate post to make a point.
I'm not into condemning someone else's relationship without knowing the whole story. And its absolutely true, as well.

4. Ah.
I just thought it looked a bit odd sitting by itself away from the rest of the conversation. :P

When I was 19 I dated a 16 year old, so I also get a bit annoyed when people just assume that because there's an age difference it means one person is a lecherous old fart. I only get concerned when the two people aren't anywhere near the same place in life. In AspieGrrl's case, she met this person through a group of people who had something in common. They had a starting point. It isn't just a teenage 'oh you're cute, I want to date you' thing, so in her case I'm not too concerned. Maybe a little, just because she's around my little sister's age, and my little sister just started dating someone much older too. But not a whole lot. They're both intelligent girls, they'll know if it's time to pull the plug when something goes wrong.

25. still didn't answer the question...
is a first kiss a kiss on the lips? a lot of kisses on the lips?

a kiss with tongue?

or, in your case, a kiss with major feelie uppies? ;)

I can still remember a friend of mine's older sister telling us, when we were 12:

"when you kiss a guy, don't close your lips and pucker."

"why?"

"because, if you're not a kid, you kiss with your mouth open a little bit."

"why?"

"because when you kiss, the guy puts his tongue in your mouth."

"eeeuuuwwww! ... but then again... okay."

6. I dated a 21 year-old when I was 17.
:hi:

Of course it all depends on the situation and the people involved. The guy I dated wasn't a jerk. There was nothing wrong with him. He treated me better than some of the boyfriends I've had since, in fact. If anything, I was the jerk. I became interested in someone else, and I wasn't very nice about breaking up with the 21 year-old.

8. My wife is 18 years younger than me
It's way different than a 16-year-old and a 21-year-old.

We're both adults. Not an adult and a kid. If she was 18 and he was 23, I wouldn't care. They're both adults.

21. When I was 15-- a long time ago, I liked older boys--
and I was kissed by an eighteen-year old, and then I had a little romance with a 21-yr old on leave from the Marines. Like for a week--my parents heavily disapproved. Of my dating in general--apparently, I was very precocious, and it needed watching, and they may have been right.

But I can remember being that fifteen year old. My hormones were telling me I was ready. I knew about condoms and I would have insisted. And those older boys never really got to me--they were flings, because I was too young to really care. I think the age thing comes down to maturity--I was a pretty mature teen. The idea of preganancy, disease, or losing my parent's respect was devastating to me, because I was still so aware how much I needed them for like, college, and, uh, transport. I fell in love, but I fell out, too. I think these situations are totally subjective, and for me, I was kind of adult for my years. I ended up dating another boy closer to my age for four years, and didn't have sex until I was eighteen, and when I did, we had condoms and we were super-careful.

I think every youngster comes of age their own way--but just needs the education and self-esteem to make good choices about how, when, and with whom. Age isn't as much the issue as maturity and empowerment. Regardless of what parents want, teens will experiment on the basis of their experiences and connections--they will take chances because they are available. They need to be educated about the pitfalls without feeling like they are being lectured.

I have a lot of respect, in hindsight, for the parents of teenagers. My parents must have suffered a few crises knowing I was as independent and adventurous as I was.
