The Passion of the Orville Redenbacher
Orville Redenbacher got an early start in the popcorn business. As a kid, he earned his spending money popping and selling popcorn he grew on the family farm.

Orville spent over 60 years of torturous existance developing a corn hybrid unlike any other. He created and tested over 40,000 varieties, until he found the one that popped up light, fluffy, and tasty enough to meet his standards. Orville Redenbacher lived his life and died for your popcorn.

1. I actually met him in a San Diego "family-style" restaurant some...
years ago. It was the year that he died. My ex and I tried to speak to him while he was waiting in line for a table, accompanied by several family members.
He did not look good, shaky and all, and could not muster up the energy to shake hands with us. He was in his 90's I believe.
He was wearing his signature bowtie.

2. I vaguely remember from the commercials
Redenbabacher had when I was a kid, didn't he have a son who also wore a big bowtie?

3. Yes, but did he die painfully
in a long, drawn-out, 45-minute brutal torture scene?? That's what really matters.

Seriously, your post is hysterical, I especially like the touch of "The" Orville Redenbacher. :)

He'd have been pleased.

His father was my great-grandfather's older brother. Oh, I forgot, he earned his degree at Purdue.

Hell, I may as well just tell y'all my real name. It's not like Calico Johnnie Arschloch doesn't have me pegged anyway....

Nawwwww. I LIKE being the "International Man of Mystery"....

Uh, for the record, Cousin Willie's and Pop Weaver's are just as good, they're also Indiana Grown, and unlike Cousin Orv, they're NOT owned by Con-Agra.

5. I revere anyone who can stick to one thing like he did
cuz I can't. But I only ever buy his popcorn - it is the BEST. Or maybe it's the butter and salt?
