It sucks living next to the airport.
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 08:48 PM by northwest
My college campus is located across the road from Fargo-Moorhead International Airport, and an Air National Guard unit is stationed there. And every day, they do these flying drills where they fly in what seems like Mach 4, flying about two miles, then coming back to base. The piercing noise is coming RIGHT THROUGH my fourth-storey high rise dorm window that's facing their flight pattern. Right now, there's planes making these PIERCING ZOOMING noises, and flying back to base. It really pisses me off. Never mind the fact that it's also the largest commercial airport in a 250-mile radius, and gets over 25 flights per day, and over half a million passengers per year.

1. abatement funds
if you really want to get your rant on a roll, try searching "noise abatement Chicago O'Hare funds" or some similar terms. You will find that some people have been paid quite handsomely to equip their homes so they don't have to hear the incessant noise.

I don't begrudge them a penny but I live near an airport, too, and I'd like to know why I've not received any help. I've spent some $26,000 of my own money to make my place quieter.

2. I have TWO Naval Air Bases near my college.
They go back and forth all the time. Big planes, little fighter jets, helicopters with big guns, even an Osprey once. No set pattern, just back and forth, high up, so low you'd swear you could smell them. All over, all the time.

I feel your pain man.

5. I used to live in the ORD (O' Hare) flight path...
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 01:46 AM by chair094
where 747's, some lacking hush kits or other noise equipment, would fly right over my house at 300 ft. above ground level at two in the morning.

Air cargo is a wonderful thingO8)

But it was nice to be able to watch aircraft on final approach whenever I wanted to.

ON EDIT: Fargo must be a REALLY BUSY military area for it to even come close to ORD, esp. with only 25 commercial flights/day.
