1. Awww...how very sweet of you to ask. I'm good. Power went out for a short time...
during the night, but other than that, no big deal.

I have a small Lanai and portions of the screens pulled out, but other than that, no big deal.

It looks as if the center of the storm came ashore about 10 miles south of me, so aside from an occasional strong band passing by, the highest winds were well south.

It's still raining and blowing pretty good outside right now, but the gusts aren't that strong - maybe 30 - 40 MPH.

There is a big Coconut Palm right outside my back door and it doesn't even look like it lost a single frond.

Raccoon, you are very sweet to think of me.

Thanks.

2. Wait...what happened?
I've been working for 7 days straight splitting between second and overnight shift - did not know there was weather.

3. Tropical Storm Fay.
Here is a thread I put up in GD about it late last night;

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3819679

I live in Fort Myers, the bump in the coastline I referred to is where Naples is and the gash is Cape Coral/Fort Myers.

The storm came ashore north of Naples, about 10 or so miles south of where I live.

5. Geez - that's pretty crazy
i didn't hear about - so is there a lot of storm damage? Was it primarily South Florida or up into Central too?

This explains why my GA Power lineman BF has been suspiciously quiet - i'm guessing he's on storm duty or will be shortly.

6. Recent GOES Satellite image...

Most recent Infrared loop;
http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t1/loop-avn.html

I haven't been outside yet, but as I said, it wasn't too severe, really. Might be a tree limb down here or there, but the winds never got that bad in my neighborhood.

It is expected to cross the state, go to sea again near Cape Canaveral and then track back ashore near JAX.

It's good that it is going right over Lake Okeechobee, because the lake is really, really low these days. You may remember hearing about the lakebed itself being on fire earlier in the summer. It burned for several weeks.

8. yeah - my folks live south of Kissimee
I didn't know about the lakeland fires but i did have the pleasure of driving thru the melbourne fires on the way to the beach last year. I'm going to have to find some time to check in with the folks - thankfully i'll be off on thursday and can call them then.

7. I just went outside...no major problems at all, around here, anyway.
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 02:03 PM by A HERETIC I AM
Lots of leaves on the ground but no tree branches down as far as I could see. A Lee County Fire/Rescue truck was cruising my complex. I asked them if there were any stop lights down, or anything (a sure sign of real high winds), they said no, nothing like that at all.

So here, in South Fort Myers it seems as if we got kind of lucky. I don't know how serious it got down in Naples or Bonita Springs (1st town North of Naples and where my office is) but as I said, it seemed pretty tame.

9. We're still getting winds in Port St Lucie
There was a tornado in Stuart. The worst one was in Wellington, though. And it's raining again. My pool is so full it looks like one of those infinity edge pools. Lots of flooding in Martin, St Lucie and Okeechobee counties. They needed it in Okeechobee, though. Hopefully the lake gets full from this

10. I am about where the purple triangle is.
I am in SW Orlando. We have been getting some of the feeder bands. I assume the more hairy stuff will be coming later on tonight. Hasn't been bad, so far, but Melbourne has gotten drenched.
