not only is she instantly transformed into a glamorous siren, whatever was wrong with her eyesight suddenly is cured, and she no longer needs glasses.

1. Ah yes, the mysterious instantaneous contacts...
At least in Love Potion #9 the changes were explained.

12. I was just thinking about that movie the other day!
It's a really great flick. And I love Sandra Bullock. I'm itching to see it again soon.

16. I'm no Sandra Bullock fan (she's on my "This movie's gonna suck" list) ...
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 12:17 PM by meegbear
so what is the secret about removing glasses and being able to see?

17. Contacts, silly!
At least in LP#9 they did address that. And the fact that she got her teeth fixed. And found a sugar daddy to buy her designer clothes and pay for a nice haircut. (They killer body was her own, apparently, hiding under a lab coat.)

I say give the movie a chance. It really is cute and clever.

20. Booooo!
:P :spank:

There's more to it than that--especially the way the movie deals with the same issue on the men's side (male geek gets chicks). Watch it--you'll like it! It gets the MG seal of approval! :D

2. An attractive woman doesn't need to remove her glasses
to be a siren, in my book.

5. Yeah, that one is near the top of the list--at least in number of times it is used
It seems to be the feminine equivalent of the retired secret agent/cop/criminal/cowboy who gets pulled back in one more time. AKA "The Gunslinger who has hung up his guns" syndrome.

Does the "glasses removed = instant maximum hotness" have a close cousing the way the "back from retirement" has the "one last job BEForE retirment" variation?

6. AND she lets her glorious long hair down...
Glasses & a bun always mean an ugly duckling is about to emerge:)

7. And naturally she already has a perfect body that she hides under frumpy clothes.
So when she gets rid of the bun and the glasses, she suddenly finds a bunch of tight, short, low-cut clothing to show off her size 2 body and big boobs.

9. I saw such a scene in an old flick just last night.
Bogart's "The Big Sleep"- the first bookstore scene.

It seemed to help her even more when she let her hair down for him...

since I've never seen The Big Sleep.

Dorothy Malone, and she's still around at 83:

21. Funny. I watched that the other night, too, and thought of it when I saw the OP.
However, she was attractive to him even before the glasses came off. I think the OP was talking more about the ugly duckling syndrome, where the unnoticed female with glasses takes off the glasses and is suddenly noticed by everyone.

26. That's what my man thinks.
Too bad for our relationship -- I outgrew my need for glasses once my lazy eye responded to the patches and drops.

Now I only need reading glasses. Which is good for the bedroom, I guess (he only gets to see me in my oh-so-hot glasses when I'm laying down reading a novel).

Eventually age will catch up with me and my far-sightedness will get severe enough for me to need them more. Right now I can live with or without them. I just get headaches after reading tiny print.

13. I had to do that in a play once
Back when I was a young hottie. Act I, hair yanked back severely (but no glasses) and frumpy clothes. Act II, I did the princess thing--dolled up, hair down, made a big entrance down a staircase to go on a date, and each night the audience gasped--audibly. It was kinda creepy and weird.

22. This gets used on men, too, though not as much.
It isn't always glasses, though. Sometimes it's hair style or some clothing, like a sweater vest.
