What are the first three DVDs that you bought?
Me:
1) This Is Spinal Tap
2) Holy Grail
3) Night of The Living Dead (the original B&W version)

Yes, I'm a dork, but no collection is complete without those movies. I'm up to about 70 now.

Casino was on sale. (I think it's a great movie and I've watched it many times, but I wouldn't have bought it first if it wasn't on sale.)

16. I remember clearly
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 09:47 PM by scottcsmith
1) Happy Gilmore
2) Fleetwood Mac's The Dance
3) The Mask

At the time I was working for Hewlett-Packard, testing laptop computers and some of the first DVD-ROM drives ever used in notebook computers. This would have been in 1997.

I have your first two titles and a couple of hundred others.

It's interesting how some movie studios embraced the DVD format immediately while others did not. Happy Gilmore, for instance, is a very basic disc, fullscreen (gag!) with no extras.

The Mask, on the other hand, had the fullscreen version on one side and the widescreen on the other, as well as director commentary. Contact is another pioneering early DVD.

19. Do you have the Criterion "Spinal Tap?"
I keep trying to expand my selection of the Criterion Collection movies. So far I have Robocop, Flesh for Frankenstein and The Life of Brian. I thought I had gotten the holy grail of Criterion discs, Salo, but it ended up being a bootleg.

Criterion's Robocop is awesome as it has the unrated version of the movie, the cut of the movie the MPAA wanted to give an "X" rating to.

Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 09:35 AM by prolesunited
I have a DVD player but I don't own any DVDs. I either borrow from someone else's collection or rent them.

I really don't care to watch a movie more than once (with the exception of a few classics and that is usually years apart) so what's the point of owning them.

Sounds like you have a pretty huge collection, though. Perhaps I'll have to raid your library. :D
