Poll question: Which of my favorite bands is your favorite?
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 07:34 PM by leftist_rebel1569
I was just going through my playlist a few minutes ago and I thought it would be fun to see which of my favorite bands is the most popular amongst DUers...I know it's mostly modern rock, but I guess that's just my preference. That said, I really wanted to throw The Cure in there somewhere, but I guess I like Joy Division more :P. Anyways, go on ahead, pick one...

Edit: BTW, You should be able to guess by my avatar what my favorite of all the bands are :)

26. Umm...Yeah. I thought I mentioned that they sucked.
New Wave was some of the weakest crap ever. I hate that montotone droning voice they all use and the music is uninspiring at best. AIC blows their doors off.

Hope is the denial of reality.
I'd rather be deaf than listen to that wussy shit. My taste though, is perfectly developed for me. I'm sure you'd hate most of what I like as well, judging by this.

53. Alright...
I'm primarily into Thrash Metal, which is basically Heavy Metal on speed with extra crunch. Bands like Slayer, 80's Metallica, 80's Megadeth, Destruction, Possessed, Vio-Lence, Exodus etc. Along with a few newer bands that play the same style like Dew Scented, The Haunted and Ritual Carnage. Of course the Metal staples such as Motorhead, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Sabbath, Ozzy, Led Zeppelin and the like are highly respected. I like shit where people are aggressively emotional, from Little Richard to CCR to The Sex Pistols to Slayer to Dew Scented and who knows from there. I like screaming vocalists and blazing guitars and machine gun drums. I want to feel some fire. That's not to say I don't like other types of music, I enjoy Bach and Mozart, The Beatles, Genesis, Rush, quite a bit of classic rock really and psychedelic 60's shit from when I was into acid and stuff like Public Enemy, N.W.A., Ice Cube, KRS1 back when rap was cool. I'm rather eclectic in my tastes outside of Metal but I favor it above all. If this seems rambling I just want it known that my bong is clean and it kills.

18. i keep checking their website to see when they tour again
"a perfect circle" played near me in Boston this summer but I couldnt make it. Tool tix are hard to get. I was lucky and a friend happened to get some for their show in New Haven CT last time they toured. I didnt think much about them until I saw them live. Some of my friends couldnt stop raving about them and I soon found out why. I also saw KMFDM play at a bar I used to hang at in San Francisco when I lived there in the early 90's. Ministry is a good band to see live also. I saw them last spring. Holy crap! They kept flashing pics of Bush then demons then Powell then more demons on the big video screen behind them! I like the other bands you mention also particularly Soundgarden. Not a big fan of Audioslave and never listened to Rage much either though I like them.

32. Seems there are a lot of Joy Division fans here at DU
Which means I'm among people with great taste in music!

Decades
Here are the young men,
a weight on their shoulders
Here are the young men,
well where have they been?
We knocked on doors
of hell's darker chambers
Pushed to the limits,
we dragged ourselves in
Watched from the wings as
the scenes were replaying
We saw ourselves now as
we never had seen
Portrayal of the traumas and degeneration
The sorrows we suffered
and never were freed
Where have they been (4)

Weary inside, now our hearts
lost forever
Can't replace the fear
or the thrill of the chase
These rituals showed up the door
for our wanderings
Opened and shut, then slammed
in our face
Where have they been (4)

One of my favorite Joy Division songs. Nothing else has come close to expressing the darkness of my own depression than the lyrics of Ian Curtis.

44. I don't know pop, either. Blech.
I get my music from my old jazz station back in Long Beach, CA, or from the classical stations here in the DC area, or, if I feel like singing, classic rock on the radio or 70s on the satellite dish.

Bertha's a fuddy duddy. Don't much care for current music in the most popular veins.

"WWIII"

I declare war on the world
War in outer space
I declare war in a nutshell
War all over the place

I declare war on every government
War against all odds
I declare war on your inner sanctum
On your blood thirsty gods

I declare war on the axis of morons
All out war on complacent consent
I declare war on the war against drugs
Rape and Slaughter of the innocent

War on big brother
Warmongers and profiteers
War on your dogma Dubya
Armageddon's engineers

War in a heartbeat
I declare war on so-called civilization
World trade globalization
Organized desinformation

War on ambassadors of pretense
War on MTV and CNN
McDonald's, Walt Disney and Bethlehem
On Christina, Britney and Eminem

I declare war on the world of anti-choice
On violent unilaterality
On the amassment of murderous high-tech toys
And all crimes against humanity

War on the moral majority
On corparate.com imperialism
On mindlessly bumbling stupidity
And police-state terrorism

World War Three - be all that you can be
