Would someone please shoot me
with a painkiller?

My sciatica is so bad today that my left leg is partially numb. The un-numb part hurts like a sumbitch! x(

1. I'm sorry.
I had sciatica when I was pregnant, but it was my right leg and butt cheek. Very very painful.

3. I had it then too, but I get it pregnant or not.
I fell down some stairs on my backside when I was 18; ever since then, I've had to deal with it from time to time.

It really sucks!

2. Aw, I'm sorry - I can so relate
I blew my back out a week ago. Haven't got it in the sciatic, thankfully, but I'm in a world of hurt, too.

Wish I could PM you some of my Vicodin.

6. My dear SeattleGirl!
I am so very sorry, sweetie...

I cannot even imagine how much pain you're in...

Wish I could do more than cyber-hugs!

Can you get to your doctor, or something?

:loveya:

9. Unfortunately, I can't see my doctor, by decree of the pencil pushers.
I owe over $200 from when I didn't have insurance. I have insurance now, but no job.

The petty little woman in the business office says I cannot make an appointment with my doc until I pay that off.

Pretty messed up, huh?

15. I'm going through this for the first time in my life since Friday.
I never would have realized just how bad the pain could be without experiencing it. No numbness here, but plenty of muscle cramping and the pain moving down my right leg. According to my chiropractor, it's a "good sign" when the pain moves down the leg. Okay. But the pain hasn't stopped. It's just in a different place. I hope I can get into work tomorrow...

What do you take, other than wanting an additional painkiller? Although, I guess it's not working so well if you need something more powerful...

I hope yours gets better soon, too.

17. Only thing I have is ibuprophen.
Better than nothing.

I hope you start feeling better soon. Nerve pain is some of the worst.

21. Thank you

Have you tried Aleve? Of course, if the ibuprofen works, just use that, but I know Aleve is supposed to be an anti-inflammatory. The other thing my chiropractor gave me (or sold to me) is a multi-vitamin for helping with backpain (as was my original reason for going last week) and another pill for anti-inflammation that is a combination of the enzymes of papaya and pineapple. I don't know if it's working that well, but something is.

There are also stretching exercises to do if you are aware of them. Another friend showed them to me as he gets this too sometimes. One is to cross your leg over the knee of the other, with your foot at the knee, like men sit sometimes ;) Then pull your crossed knee towards you and hold for 15-20 seconds. That stretches the muscles at the hip. You may also notice that it takes some of the pressure off the nerve, at least temporarily.

This is just one of those things that takes time, but I certainly hope it doesn't take too long. I can't afford to be away from work too long, even if my supervisor understands my plight. I hope you're able to get well and get employed again soon, too.

Oh, if there are any schools of chiropractic in your area you can often get help for very little cost. I guess the other route is a free-clinic. I don't know how to find those, but I'm sure there are others here knowledgable in that.

22. I do know a lot of the stretches and stuff, and I've been doing them.
Not doing much for me so far.

Unfortunately, time seems to be the only thing that really does any good.

23. Yeah, I know about the stretches not seeming to help long-term.
It helps at the moment, but so far, not much more than that.

I'm guessing that the time-factor is different for everyone as I've been told anywhere from a few days to a few months of this. I couldn't last a few months, and even a few weeks would probably starve me to death. Or blow me up from having to call-in orders. I can't stand long enough to cook, so that's out for the time being.

Do you have any friends or family that could help you with that bill? Or set up a payment plan? Most doctors and their staff are willing to do that, since it means you pay them off eventually.

25. Not really.
I will be getting some money from the proceeds of the sale of my mom's house, but not until October probably.

And I've talked to the business office, and they will not accept a payment plan.

Plus, I'm out of work right now, and we are living on a single income that is barely enough to pay the household bills.

If for nothing else, this situation is one very good reason for universal healthcare in this country.

26. I understand.
I finally work for someone that has a group plan, yet I still have a $2000 deductible before anything is truly "covered". What I don't understand about it is that they will cover a chiropractor, but not an osteopath

But "crazy" seems to be one of the best words to describe our healthcare system these days.

31. Yeah. :^( I haven't had it lately, but when I do get it does kinda come
and go over a period of time, then disappear for a longer while, and then WHAM it comes back again. I think it waits until I forget just how much it hurts, then comes back to remind me.
