Why don't you do something about it?
I'm reading a lot of posts here on the DU, and all I see is people complaining. Complaining about the gay marriage ban. Complaining about Dubya. Complaining about republicans. Complaining about the media. Complaining about this...and that...

My question to you is: why don't you do something about those issues instead of complaining about those issues on an internet forum?

Call your congressmen. Email them. Rally. Go out and vote. Protest. Do whatever it takes to have your voices heard.

Just please stop complaining unless you do something about it.

4. I sign petitions and such, whether it be against or FOR something
I openly praise politicians, even Republicans, if they do something pro-people or pro-environment (such as the bipartisan effort to curtail corporate farms' overuse and gross misuse of antibiotics in the food animals, which we all known for years that a build-up of antibiotics leads to antibiotic-restistant strain...)

Always be polite, mention a contingency idea when possible, and if you're dealing with the opposition - go out of your way to thank them for being concerned about the right things. It might help them to do so again in the future.

5. Are you suggesting that all of the issues you raised in your post
are okay with you the way they currently stand? I don't know about you, but when something pisses me off I'm going to say something about it. There are a lot of angry people here on DU (riteously angry) and I think they fully intend to do something about. We just like to come here and vent about it.

7. I wrote each of
my representatives in the Fed and State levels, not only outlining that I was against it - but also copying and pasting from their campaign donors business sites whereever I found language supportive of gay rights, diversity and equal treatment for both homo and heterosexual.

I also used the toll free number to call each of their offices (Dem or Rep)in Washington and register my displeasure. Since it's a free call, it only costs a minute or two of your time. The TOLL FREE Capitol Hill switchboard number is 1 (800) 839 - 5276. They'll transfer you, FREE, to any House/Senate office you request.

Also, I've passed that info along to any other boards I'm on.

9. just because I am here all day
Doesn't mean I do nothing else.
I already wrote my senators and congress rep (a republican no less) and I sent a letter to the editor that I hope to see in print.

And that is just this week. . .

11. Most of us *do* all those things that you mentioned and more.
Then we come to DU to bitch about it just to blow off some steam. You are in the presence of the vanguard of the progressive movement. By NO means do we just sit on our asses and "bitch" all day. Got it?
