What have you been listening to lately?
New Pornographers - Electric Version (I love this CD! It's sure to be in my top 10 of the year. Call it bubblegum alternative maybe. But it's bugglegum worthy of The Monkees.)

Beatles - Abbey Road (a very favorite, and even the goofy lyrics here are loveable.)

Michelle Branch - Hotel Paper (The Spirit Room had an amazing punch and I won't be forgetting it, but Hotel Paper feels like a natural progression. She's doing great pop and I can't wait until the next one already.)

George Strait - Honkeytonkville (one or two songs are just solid and could have appeared on a number of albums, but this is another gem for George.)

samples from Alex Bach - she's amazing! She's more rock than Michelle and Avril.

2. I have a small collection
I just got Jimmy Buffett's "Meet Me in Margaritaville" compilation. There's 40 of his greatest hits, along with a few new recordings of older songs".

I also have Avril Lavigne's "Lets Go" debut album.

I always rotate my three Dixie Chicks CD's, "Home", "Fly", and "Wide Open Spaces".

I still actually listen to Billy Ray Cyrus, one of only a few country singers I can listen to".

I just bought "The Essential Willie Nelson", which is very good.

I have U2's "All That You Can't Leave Behind" in my car.

I occasionally listen to "The Rising" by Bruce Springsteen.

Finally, I have "Thankful" by Kelly Clarkson. It's surprisingly good. Better than the film "Justin and Kelly".

5. I love your taste!
:hi: TSIAS!

I even agree that the Kelly Clarkson isn't bad. I still think she could use better material, but with the exception of "Low," it's very listenable like Celine's A New Day Has Come.

6. How's the Raul Malo?
I've seen The Mavericks a couple of times, and have always been impressed with Malo's voice. He hits those notes live, which is incredible.

I've heard a single or two, but not the whole thing.

11. It's great!
It is a somewhat eclectic mix, some songs in English, siome in Spanish. It has a wide range of styles, from Latin rhythm, to bluesy, to tango, to ballad, to authentic Mexican, to jazzy.

My favorite track, one that I heard on the local public station, really grabbed me and enticed me to buy the CD, is a very poignant ballad about love gone wrong (aren't those always the best?), called Every Little Thing.

I can definitely highly recommend this album!

22. Right now
A Carly Simon Greatest Hits collection - I'm really starting to get into her. She did some of the best torch singing.

Also, a collection called Ultimate Disco - hard to resist these partiular songs, including "Y.M.C.A." and "Celebration." Some of these songs aren't even pure disco.

The new Lucinda Williams album is really growing on me, and I want to buy it. It took a while to appreciate what are some of her sparest songs and purest blues songs yet. I love how even when she's vulnerable, her voice still sounds like there's some attitude there.

I heard some of the new Thalia - rhythmatic and bouncy, but possibly still too J. Lo-ish to buy. So far I think it's clearly above J. Lo and Paulina Rubio.

I don't see what the big fuss about Buddy Jewell is in country. His voice and songs so far sound like paint by numbers.

23. Looooot of PowerPop
Big Star, Raspberries, a little Cheap Trick, The Knack, Brendan Benson's latest album, new Supergrass, etc etc. Oh, and The Posies "Frosting On The Beater" album, along with Velvet Crush's "Teenage Symphonies To God" are making for particularly poignant summer nights of drinking.

26. Tonight..
More Carly Simon
My disco collection (some big hits here were clearly clunkers, like the slow "I'll Be Good To You," the rambling "Shake Your Groove Thing," and the cheesy "Get Up And Boogie." but I really like some of these disco songs - "Flashdance (What A Feeling)" just one more of them. They make the album worth it.)
Mandy Moore - self-titled (ok, I admit liking it a lot. It fits in perfectly with my White Stripes and Lucinda Williams CDs, just like Avril, Michelle, etc. do. I feel like Mandy will go places (not just in music,) and Britney won't.)

27. Tonight
BTW, I'm not bumping this one after tonight. I'll wait for a new one.

I heard:

Jennifer Hanson - self-titled: one of the better country releases lately. And it's grown on me - into an A- grade at least. She should be as popular as the somewhat by the numbers Rascal Flatts. Speaking of country, I might like the new ones by Brooks And Dunn and Brad Paisley.

Also heard a song called "Bad Girl" from an up and comer named Alexandra Slate - it's very good, and it reminds me of a rockier Fiona Apple.

A big thumbs down to the new Monica.

Heard some of Jessica Harp, and I'm not sure I'd like her as much as a lot of the other pop rockers. Some other pop-rockers I don't like as much: Lisa Marie Presley (still find "Lights Out" pretty annoying,) this Canadian pop/rock group I can't think of the name of now (not Our Lady Peace,) Kelly Osbourne - and I really don't like Jennifer Love Hewitt.
