I saw some dude pitching a tent while sleeping in Borders tonight.
There was nothing left to the imagination under the thin veil of that guy's sweatpants.

I tried to get a picture, but I was laughing too damn hard.

4. Why do people think they can live there?
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 10:46 PM by Kutjara
It's a bookstore, not a hostel for the feckless. The Borders coffee shop is home to people who look as if they're staging a sit-in, while every aisle is full of human detritus sitting on the floor, surrounded by manga and Jackie Collins novels (not the same people, of course. Except for my friend Sid, but he's special). Half of the look as if they're dressed for bed. This is not your fucking home, people! You're in public! Buy a book and fuck off!

10. I don't even mind the sleeping, as long as the...
...assholes don't snore. It makes the job of robbing them easier. No, what really gets me are the people who roll in there with their toddlers, turn the kids loose, and then set up home in the coffee shop, where they spend the rest of the day yakking on their cell phones. That it pretty much the only category of person for whom I'd be prepared to support the death penalty.

11. there are some real weirdos at the one in South Coast Plaza
When I first saw this topic I actually imagined a homeless guy putting up an actual tent in the store under the stairs, since I doubt anyone would stop them. There is a weird guy who is ALWAYS at the Borders in South Coast Plaza who wears these purple leapord skin pants whilst muttering to himself about various subjects while hiding behind a newspaper.

13. SOUTH COAST PLAZA! YES!
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 11:20 PM by Kutjara
I go to the one near me in Brea most often, but SCP is the other one I visit a lot. I've seen that guy! Sometimes, he thinks he works in the music section, because he'll come up to you and recommend CDs. His recommendations are pretty good, too.

But that is definitely one of the places where people have clearly mistaken the bookstore for their home. They sit around, surrounded by the debris of their lives, as if they're the only people in the place.

18. That guy has been there forever
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 11:54 PM by policypunk
The first time I noticed him was in January or February 2003, it is kind of an expensive area to be a bum, yet no matter what time of the day I go to that store he is there.'

There also used to be a strange old guy who would hangout around the computer books offering unsolicited and uninteligible Linux tips, but I haven't seen him in years.

14. Apparently nothing.
I wish I had a good story where he was looking at some erotica, or even a Hustler, but he was just leaning back in a chair with his Cardinals hat, gray sweatpants, and a boner.

17. FYI
that is a completely normal thing for a male to do while asleep. If you had fallen asleep in Borders, you would have done the same thing, and someone would have come on to DU to make a thread about it, and we all would have laughed at you.

Last time I looked, I think the research was that on average, a man will "pitch a tent" 3 times a night.

19. Imagine what life must be like for a Borders employee...must go something like this:
Employee: "Excuse me, sir...but we're getting ready to close soon. Could you take your, ummmm...package, and leave"?

Evil Employee ( me, if I worked at Borders ) " Sir, I know that you find our selection quite arousing, but you are disturbing some of the other patrons in a manner that I can't mention at the moment...just, well, would you look down at your sweatpants for a moment and see how pathetic you look? The college girls down in the T.S Elliot section were giggling so loudly that other readers had to leave the store".

I don't think he would stay very long after that one, except if he was that neighbor of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force
