Question about an Olympic event....what is it called?
I remember hearing some announcer talking about a track and field event that included events like sword fighting, equestrian events...and other more tracky events....I've looked for it..I'm sure its name is something like decathalon, heptathalon...etc, ending in "alon"...anybody know what it is? Thanks.

2. Nope...that's not it.
The pentathlon has these events:

1. 110/100 meter hurdles
2. Shot put
3. High jump
4. Long jump
5. 1500/800 meters

3. Specifically the Modern Pentathlon as opposed to the Pentathlon
The Modern Pentathlon includes shooting, fencing, horse jumping, etc., while the plain old pentathlon includes more traditional track and field events (a sprint, a strength event, high jump, long jump, and a distance race).

4. Modern Pentathlon
The modern pentathlon is a sports contest that includes five events, derived from the Greek root of pente, meaning five. The events are epee fencing, pistol shooting, 200 m freestyle swimming, a show jumping course on horseback, and a 3 km cross-country run. The epithet modern is important to discern it from the ancient athletics pentathlon – none of the events of modern pentathlon were part of the ancient Olympics.
