Half of Young Americans to Get Sex Diseases -Study

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Half of all young Americans will get a sexually transmitted disease by the age of 25, perhaps because they are ignorant about protection or embarrassed to ask for it, according to several reports issued on Tuesday.

The reports, publicized by two nonprofit sexual and youth health groups, said there were 9 million new cases of STD among teens and young adults aged 15 to 24 in 2000.


They said the U.S. government's policy of preferring abstinence-only education would only increase those rates.


"For the 27 million young Americans under the age of 25 who have had sex, the stakes are simply too high to talk only about abstinence," James Wagoner, president of Advocates for Youth, said in a statement.

Seriously, we need to have classes teaching BOTH "just say no" and "how to protect your fleshy banana", while the former is better, people are going to do it regardless. Protecting one's self, regardless, is essential. As with many other issues, * and the fundies are far more out of touch with reality than the liberals they accuse of being out of touch.

Or is it compassionate conservatism to say "Don't stick your hoo-hoo-dilly in her cha-cha" and if they do, tell them they deserve what they got and let them rot?! x(

8. Don't knock abstinence-only education

My wife and I have been using abstinence for birth control since we got married. After all, it is the only 100% effective method.

Mucking forons...Never occurs to them that there might be a few times that this knowledge could be of use, even socially acceptible? We can't teach kids to be safe having sex, otherwise they might be safe WHILE HAVING SEX.
