computer question of the week: my old computer crapped out unexpectedly
i'm thinking the motherboard died and the hard drive is ok. is there a way to set up my old h/d as an external hard drive?

8. There are cheaper USB enclosures out there
You do not have to spend $35 for one, you can find them as cheap as $20 plus S&H.

2. Sure
The easiest way is to get an adapter. You plug the adapter into the old hard drive and the adapter connects to the new computer through a USB port. Here's an example - http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php?type=family&id=39. We use these in work every now and then.

7. Of course.
But you might not need to. Many computers have space internally where you could just add it as a second HD and not need to go external with the extra cables and space used and all.
