Ethnic Dilemma

This weekend, we have three big ethnic shindigs:

Latino Fest, with the Dominican and Puerto Rican communities, where the music will be good;

Greek Fest, sponsored by Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, with really good food;

Mahrajan, a Lebanese festival run by Our Lady of the Cedars Melkite Church.


What's your advice?

Although I suspect the food at the Greek and Lebanese gigs is going to pretty similar in a lamb, rice, and grape leaves sort of way!

I sense a food coma coming on!

Those are staple foods of both cuisines...however if my local Greekfest is a guide, I'd expect more of the "fancy" cuisine such as Spanakopita, Souvlaki, and Baklava and various things that I don't know the name for. Most of it pastry-wrapped and all of it terrible for you. (But it tastes great!)

Lebanese cuisine often means Arabic cuisine in general: hummus, falafel, kabob, shawarma, kofta, beet-dyed pickled turnips (Don't miss these!), tabbouleh, tahini, baba gannouj. Pretty much, if you can spread it on flatbread.

So, yes...there will be a good deal of overlap, but there should be a good amount of difference too.

6. no, you get the spanikopita , moussaka, and a Greek Salad at the Greek deal then go over to

the Lebanese one and have the hummus, babaganoush, and felafels.

You can have grape leaves and tzatziki sauce at both with pita bread for comparison purposes.

Finish up at the Latin one with sopapillas, and lots of dancing.

You have to have a tactical plan for working three festivals in one day.

buy small servings of each food, share it ...saves money and calories.

I'd go to Mahrajan if I had to choose because I love Arabic food and Lebanese women are hot. Otherwise, I'm jumping from one to the next all weekend.
