Just poke slats in the tin so the smoke can escape. Or leave the top off if you prefer.

You will have to change out the ashes every hour to 90 mins or so.

7. It should work fine....soak the wood in water for at least an hour

To get better smoking and less burning...also I'd let it sit in the grill for a while before putting meat on just to make sure that any paints or chemicals on the cookie tin get burned off and don't get into your food!

If you plan to do more smoking in your gas grill, get a cast-iron smoker box.

Wonk, What I do is wrap the chips in HD tinfoil (the stuff left over from hat-making) and poke holes in the foil, then put it where it will get hot enough to smoke, but not directly in the flame.
