Somebody stole my sprinkler.
I put it in the middle of my garden and time it for 5:00 am to water it. I noticed my garden was getting dry, then I realized my sprinkler was gone. The garden is fine and nothing else was taken. Just my sprinkler. Who steals somebody's sprinkler? It's so annoying. It's not something you call the police about, but you have to go out and buy another one. I'm pissed.

1. I can understand being pissed, but can't understand the reason for stealing it
wtf?!

However, may I suggest getting a "weep" hose instead of a sprinkler? Most people don't really know how to use them and then give them a resounding FAIL when they don't work as they seem to be expecting. My best garden ever (about 20 years ago now) was just a little 8x10 plot, just large enough to use one weep hose, snaked back and forth over the ground, about three feet between switchbacks. Once in place, I put sawdust (because I didn't have access to straw) over the hose and the entire exposed soil surface.

Next, turn the spigot on full, to fill the hose, then shut it off again. Literally "crack" open the spigot so you're getting no more than a true drip of flow and leave it alone for the next day or so. You've just made your own "drip-irrigation" system without all the tubing hassles :)

I noticed when I did mine that way that the sawdust allowed me to see when the water had thoroughly soaked the full area of the plot and then I'd shut it off. It also cut way down on the weeds, too :)

4. That's what I'm doing next.
Excellent suggestion about the sawdust, kentauros. Mulch is too expensive for me. Thanks!

2. I feel your pain...

somebody stole Peanut from my front lawn.

I had a 4 foot yellow plastic M&M standing in my front yard...until some fucktwit stole it. When I find said fucktwit, I'm going to kill them...twice. The constable looked at me funny when I filed the report. It's not replaceable though as it's a unique item and in CT that makes it grand theft.

5. Well, if somebody stole my giant M&M, I'd be pissed, too.
Seriously, though. To have something like that stolen from your yard by people who don't know the personal worth of it has to be discouraging. Do you think you'll ever see it again?

8. Possibly...
they stole the ceramic goose the next night and the rocks last night. We got the goose back, it was sitting on the steps of the Men's Club. My stepfather just joined and I suspect this is some sort of initiation prank.

Still...I'm going to laugh if someone gets pulled over with Peanut...I might wait until after booking to not press charges.

10. I once put some reindeer on my neighbor's lawn...
It was a prank. (It was July). They were on vacation, so I got out my plastic reindeer and Santa set and put them up.

3. There, you see what happens....

9. One Idea.
I get up really early...so if I finish the paper early, I sometimes pee on it and put it back on the stoop dry side up for the neighbor to steal.

12. It is something you should call the police about
I would not expect them to do any sort of investigation, but the report to the police is important so statistics and trends can be mapped, plotted, and understood better.

I'm sorry your sprinkler disappeared. I hope the new one fares better and doesn't become the causality of a trend.

If you lived closer, I'd be happy to give you my sprinkler that is somewhat theft proof because, in a California Zen fashion, the sprinkler and hose became one and can't be removed thanks to some sort of severe oxidation.

13. Confirms MilesColtrane's axiom 3C, "People will steal anything, for no reason".
