What in the hell am I supposed to eat NOW?!?!?!
I post this here instead of GD because there are so many cooks and gourmands in the Lounge.

In case you missed it in LBN Mexico announced TODAY no more US Poultry.

If you didn't know (it was news to me) in 2002 they banned poultry imports from: NC, Maine, PA, VA, WV,TX,& California. Just this month Delaware and New Jersey. I have seen the number of "chicken houses" in the Shenandoah Valley ain't I don't think VA produces as much as Texas or Cali or even Delaware. Have we heard anything about THAT?!?!?

My wife called me and I mentioned this to her and she said, "THE MEXICANS WON'T EAT OUR FOOD?!?!?" (no offense to Latinos meant).

BEEF- Okay the UK has been struggling with this for years and when it pops up in the US a month later we are told, ~"All is well, continue to consume". Puhlease!!!!!!!!!

FISH-This might have slipped down the memory hole (headlines paraphrased).

Dec.3, 2003 FDA to allow higher levels of mercury in fish ($$$$$$)
A week later
Dec. 10, 2003 Pregnant women warned to eat only limited amounts of fish due to mercury levels --you know cause they can cause birth defects and troubled pregnancies and as a co-worker told me....hair loss in women.

So what the hell is left????

God I hope that Zagnut I just had was okay.

Tonight on Molto Mario"....uh...I .......I dunno...I give up"

15. Become a vegetarian
It really isn't so bad. Plus, you get the added benefit of never worrying about a meat recall again. I just sigh and think to myself, I'm glad I don't eat that stuff anymore.

18. Yeah, but what do they spray on the veggies? What's in the soil?

Go organic, when you can. I have started buying organic, grass-fed beef and organic free-range chicken.

22. Personally, I'm not trying to market it
Frankly, I don't really care what people eat. Heck, I'll even cook meat for family dinners.

It's just something I've tried and works for me. I've never felt better since I stopped eating meat. I still include dairy and eggs in my diet.

As far as pesticides and what's in the soil, I grow all my own vegetables in the summer, organically of course, and I will buy organic in the store if it's available. I'm certainly not fanatical about it.

23. Nothing with sugar in it...
Sugar is processed with the aid of cow bones to remove the color and to make it white (more caucasian racism?)... that's possible mad moo contamination right there...

http://www.vrg.org/journal/vj97mar/973sugar.htm (vegetarian e-mag with some good info)

Of course, with petrochemical fertilizers, insecticides, and genetic manipulation, veggies aren't good either.

sigh...

We can't even drink water because of arsenic and other forms of pollution.

Hell, our society's going to dust within 20 years anyway, so who cares? Yum it up!
