Mathematical proof that men are evil
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 04:37 PM by prolesunited
I have none because it's a false statement, but I just couldn't let the "women are evil" thread go unchallenged — "joke" or not.

Most of us don't allow racial stereotypes to unchallenged nor would we even think of posting X group is evil or X group sucks. So, when it comes to the sexes, why do we allow this to stand?

And this goes for both men and women. All men are not dogs as much as not all women are bitches. Some of them are, some of them aren't. Why paint with such a broad brush? How is this type of stereotyping conducive to us getting along and working together toward common goals?

OK, stepping off my soapbox for the day. :-)

Just my 2 cents on the issue. Anyone else have any thoughts?

2. I had to go looking for the other thread
It was pretty dumb, to tell ya the truth.

You're right, of course, but now it will get more attention.

5. It wasn't just that thread
today that provoked this. There were a few statements over the past few days that caught my eye (another one had all women judging men on the size of their bank accounts) and I just wanted to voice my concerns.

7. Fair enough
I haven't been around for several days, and mostly read the primary stuff.

:hi:

3. The joke as I understood it was
on SEXISM, not on the SEX (the female gender).

For the same reason I like racial jokes, Polish jokes, or any other "group X" jokes. To me they're jokes on these ideologies, not jokes on the people who are targeted by the ideologies. I feel comfortable in the fact that I'm so far removed from any sexism or racism (I don't buy the "we're all sexist/racist" bullshit) that I don't feel compromised when I tell a joke, or laugh at one.

It seems to me pretty uptight to get our panties in a bunch over these things, and subconsciously giving credit to the vile ideologies that these jokes lampoon.

11. I can't be offended by that...
It reads like a psychosis. That person is obviously sick and in need of help. (He and Dave Sim should get together -- they should make sweet, misogynistic, "We're really not gay!" music together.)*

*Note that I'm not implying that all gay men hate women, or that all men who hate women are gay, but that I imagine that men who get together because they mutually hate women would probably have a fear of being perceived as being gay. (Although, I can't help but wonder if a lot of these raving anti-woman types are actually latent cases who just blame women for their inability to find women who satisfy their requirements...ie. malajusted, antisocial closet cases...)

6. Thanks
Sometimes it seems like a losing battle to fight these vast generalizations about the sexes, since they are so prevalent. But it still needs to be done. The resentment they cause, while possibly small in individual cases, is cumulative and indeed harms relations between us, I believe.

So thanks for the reminder. :-)

8. Every woman I've ever met is a money-grabbing
gold-digging shallow, selfish, inconsiderate piece of human garbage.
Ok..I've only met one that was like that but it still proves my point.

Geez. Some people look into this stuff WAY too deep. Get a sense of humor.

14. Since when is it funny
to perpetuate stereotypes?

You posted yesterday that women were evil. Did you put this phrase in Google to come up with your "joke"?

I didn't find it amusing. You're free to post whatever you want, but when you do, you open yourself up to criticism. I'm just voicing my objections.

I DO have a sense of humor. Obviously, it is more refined than yours.

BTW, women are evil to YOU exactly for this type of behavior and attitudes.

12. I sometimes feel sorry for men
I think frequently women have a better grip on understanding their emotions and the ability to express them. Men frequently get themselves into trouble when they express themselves and freak because of how they feel or they can't express that whole innermost self part at all because they fall into that macho societal trap that "real men" don't have feelings of vulnerability or pain, etc.
